It’s a pretty dire situation, as millions of people across the country may lose out on critical safety-net benefits if federal financing lapses — but that doesn’t mean Twitter isn’t having field day in the best way possible. Across the country, millions of Americans are still struggling to stay afloat amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. If lawmakers don’t pass legislation to continue funding the federal government, key safety net programs — such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) aka food stamps, social security, hurricane relief, and more — will suffer financial lapses. And while thousands of federals employees face potential furloughs, Congress can still collect their full paychecks amid the shutdown.

10 'Midnight Mass' & 'American Horror Story: Double Feature' Comparisons

Sometimes, there just seems to be something in the air in Hollywood, and two very similar projects get released at the same time. Think A Bug’s Life and Antz both coming out in 1998, or No Strings Attached and Friends With Benefits hitting theaters at the same time in 2011. Well, uncanny coincidence has struck again in 2021, and this time it’s scarier than ever. Just as FX concluded the first half of its two-part American Horror Story: Double Feature season, Netflix dropped a series that felt very familiar. While there are some key differences between the shows, these Midnight Mass and AHS: Double Feature comparisons just cannot be ignored.

After several delays, American Horror Story was finally able to kick off its tenth season on Aug. 25. For the first time in the anthology series’ history, the season is split in half, with the first part of Double Feature telling a story called “Red Tide” and the second half switching to a story dubbed “Death Valley.” Eerily enough, Netflix’s unrelated horror miniseries Midnight Mass premiered just two days after AHS’ “Red Tide” story concluded, and they both featured vampiric creatures terrorizing a small beach town.

Though the overall tone and major themes of the two shows are pretty distinct from one another, it’s hard to overlook the monstrous similarities.

Midnight Mass and AHS: Double Feature Similarities

1. The Beach Setting

Hitting the beach seems to be a trend in horror this year — Hulu’s The Resort brought terror to Hawaii and M. Night Shyamalan’s twisty Old became a viral sensation — and both Midnight Mass and AHS: Double Feature are prime examples. Both series are set in small, coastal towns, constantly featuring the beach as an important location. In Midnight Mass, the secluded Crockett Island is prime for a haunting, and in AHS, the dismal winter months in Provincetown, Massachusetts are a far-cry from the lively summers.

2. The Tight-Knit Community

It’s not only the fact that both shows are set in beach towns that connects them so much; it’s that the coastal communities featured are both very small and tight-knit. Everyone knows everyone’s business in the Crock Pot, much like how all of the year-round Provincetown residents know all the secrets hidden in their community.

3. The Vampires

Neither show actually uses the term vampire, but it’s not a stretch at all to apply that word to the “angel” in Midnight Mass and the Pales in AHS. The two monsters bear a striking resemblance to one another, and on top of that, they share the same vampiric attributes. They have an insatiable thirst for blood and only come out at night. Both shows center on a vampire outbreak continuing to grow as more people choose to make the transformation, either by taking a black pill or drinking an “angel’s” blood in Unholy Communion.

4. Aging In Reverse

A big draw of becoming a vampire in both shows is a similar reverse-aging process. This is more explicitly shown in Midnight Mass, as the elderly Monsignor Pruitt reverts to a much younger version of himself once transformed, and close-to-death Mildred Gunning rapidly de-ages after partaking in communion. And renewed vitality is also shown in AHS, as the once meek Belle Noir embraces a new lease on life.

5. Pregnancy Horror

A pregnant woman plays a central part of both shows, although their stories are pretty different. Midnight Mass’ Erin tragically loses her unborn baby due to the effects of the angel’s blood, but AHS’ Doris does manage to give birth to her son... only to have it stolen away from her after she becomes a Pale.

Midnight Mass and AHS: Double Feature Differences

1. Religion Vs. Talent

The major difference between Midnight Mass and the “Red Tide” portion of AHS: Double Feature is the major institution they were focused on. Midnight Mass is clearly concerned with the dark side of organized religion, specifically Catholicism, whereas “Red Tide” was all about skewering the pitfalls of fame and artistic talent. While both use vampirism as a metaphor for their central concepts, they weren’t really saying the same things in the end. Midnight Mass leaned into the vampiric language of the Bible and played with fanaticism, while the vampires in AHS were nothing more than untalented artists unable to ever achieve their dreams of fame.

2. Home Vs. Getaway

The secluded beach settings of both shows are incredibly similar, but they actually do serve different functions. Crockett Island is a strong, family-oriented community, which rarely ever gets outside visitors. Provincetown, on the other hand, stays afloat thanks to annual tourism, and most of its inhabitants are only there for a few months either to party in the summer or work on their art in the winter. As such, Midnight Mass explores how a supernatural interloper can disrupt a seemingly stable, self-sufficient community, but AHS doubles down on transience as a major element of its setting and plot.

3. The Process of Becoming a Vampire

While it does seem to ultimately be an individual’s choice whether they want to become a vampire or not in both shows, the process is decidedly different. In AHS, it’s as easy as taking a black pill, and then you’ll either transform into one of the monstrous Pales or become revitalized (but still need to feed off blood) depending on your level of talent. Midnight Mass is a little less cut-and-dry in terms of process. The people of Crockett Island slowly transform as Father Paul puts angel blood into the communion wine, but it seems they can only fully transform by drinking the blood as they die.

4. The Effects of Sunlight

The rules of being a vampire are also a bit different in both shows. Of course, both creatures suck blood, but only the Midnight Mass vampires burn in the sunlight. Although the AHS Pales seem to prefer to only come out at night, there are a few scenes of them out and about in daytime without any negative repercussions.

5. Standalone Vs. Connected Story

Structure is also a major difference between the two stories. As all AHS fans know, the anthology series loves to connect all its seasons together with little easter eggs and references, and although none were apparent in “Red Tide,” the story is inherently connected to another one: Double Feature’s second half, “Death Valley.” But Midnight Mass is its own self-contained miniseries, fully wrapping up its chilling tale in seven episodes. Yes, there’s some hopeful chatter about the potential for a Season 2 or seeing it turn into an anthology series, but the show’s ending felt like a very clear finish to the story, which is not the same with “Red Tide.”

What Is The Women's Health Protection Act? The Abortion Law Protects Rights

As anti-choice state lawmakers continue chipping away at reproductive rights for pregnancy capable people across the country, on Sept. 24, the U.S. House voted to approve a bill that aims to safeguard access to abortion care. Called the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), the bill passed by a 218-211 vote in the House — but will it survive in the Senate? Here’s what you need to know so far.

According to the bill’s advocacy site, ActForWomen.org, the WHPA would “create a statutory right for health care providers to provide abortion care” before fetal viability (around 22-24 weeks gestation) on the national scale. It also codifies the “right for their patients to receive that care, free from medically unnecessary restrictions” that impede access to abortion care. Additionally, the bill would prohibit states from placing restrictions on abortion after fetal viability, when the pregnancy poses a risk to the patient’s life or health.

The bill would standardize the right to abortion nationwide — currently, under the Supreme Court precedent of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 case that legalized abortion, states have the ability to impose restrictions at their discretion, as long as they don’t cause an “undue burden” on a patient. These restrictions can include measures like mandatory waiting periods, counseling, two-trip requirements, and parental involvement for minors. This patchwork of regulations leads to wildly differing levels of access from state to state, including states where abortion has become nearly inaccessible. And some states are prepared for outright bans: As of September 2021, 26 states are “certain or likely” to ban abortion should Roe be overturned by the Supreme Court, according to think tank the Guttmacher Institute.

The WHPA would prevent that. Should the bill be codified into law, it would ensure that abortion remains legal nationwide, even if the Supreme Court ultimately overturns or otherwise strips the Roe decision.

While the WHPA passed the House, the legislation is unlikely to advance past the Senate, where it’s likely to be filibustered. All Democrats and 10 Republicans would need to support the bill to reach the 60-vote requirement to override a filibuster — which is unlikely to happen amid party divides. Additionally, while the bill is co-sponsored by the majority of Senate Democrats, it’s unlikely to gain the support several key Democrats, such as Pennsylvania’s Bob Casey, who has previously voted for abortion restrictions, and West Virginia moderate Joe Manchin.

Passing the WHPA is especially urgent amid recent anti-choice attacks on reproductive rights, such as Texas’ strict six-week abortion ban, Senate Bill 8 (SB8), which went into effect on Sept. 1. This bill offers no exceptions for rape and incest, and allows private citizens to take the law into their own hands to essentially become “bounty hunters” via private lawsuits against anyone “aiding and abetting” an abortion that violates the law. In a Sept. 2 statement, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the law “the most extreme, dangerous abortion ban in half a century,” saying its purpose was “to destroy Roe v. Wade.” Lawmakers in several other states — such as Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia — have voiced their intentions to introduce copycat bills to restrict abortion access. On Sept. 22, legislators in Florida filed House Bill 167 (HB167), which directly mirrors Texas’ abortion ban.

Meanwhile, on Dec. 1, the Supreme Court is set to hear Mississippi’s Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case, which will determine whether or not state laws that ban abortions pre-viability are unconstitutional. However, this is not the first time the court has weighed in on abortion in recent months. On Sept 2, the Supreme Court declined to temporarily block SB8 from taking effect in Texas, leading many advocates to worry the court will ultimately rule in favor of upholding Mississippi’s law.

While the Supreme Court’s decision remains unclear as abortion rights continue to hang in the balance, one thing is certain: Passing the WHPA may be especially urgent now.

The 'Midnight Mass' Ending, Explained: Will There Be A Season 2?

The sun may have set on Crockett Island, but that may not mean the end for Midnight Mass. Netflix’s bloody new horror series ended with a ton of destruction, heartbreaking moments, and a heaping helping of supernatural spookiness. But after finishing the series, fans are left to wonder what might be next. Will Midnight Mass follow in the footsteps of its sister Haunting series and become an anthology, or could it get a true second season picking up where Season 1 left off? To answer the question of will there be a Season 2, we need to first explain that Midnight Mass ending, because a lot happened real fast.

Spoiler alert: Don’t read on until you’ve finished the Midnight Mass finale. With Father Paul Hill revealing the truth about himself and introducing his demonic “angel” to his congregation, everything finally came to a head in the gory Midnight Mass finale. During his Black Friday sermon, Father Paul confirmed to everyone that he is actually the community’s formerly elderly religious leader Monsignor John Pruitt, having been de-aged by a vampiric creature he met in a cave on the road to Damascus. And the surprises kept coming: He then welcomed the “angel” into the chapel, inviting all his followers to drink its blood and be transformed as he has been.

Soon, pretty much everyone is reborn as a vampire thanks to this twisted take on communion, and carnage spreads across the Crock Pot. The newborn vampires feast on everyone who wasn’t at mass, which Bev justifies as their rightful punishment for skipping church, but Sheriff Hassan and Erin Greene manage to ruin Bev’s plans to create a new vampiric congregation by burning down the rec center they were planning on sleeping in come sunrise.

With every shelter on the island burned down, the vampires all burn up once the sun rises, and unfortunately, both Sheriff Hassan and Erin died as a result of their battle with the others. In her final act, Erin managed to slit several holes in the angel’s wings, hindering its ability to fly off the island.

The only two Crock Pot survivors are Warren Flynn and Leeza Scarborough, who watched their homeland burn from the safety of the canoe Warren hid in the Uppards.

The ending makes a second season seem incredibly unlikely, though not completely out of the question. With Crockett Island throughly destroyed and only two relatively minor characters left standing, there’s not much more to explore. The one glaring cliffhanger is the fate of the angel, whom Warren and Leeza saw struggling to fly away from the island before the sunrise. If the angel did survive, then a second season could potentially shift the focus to a new town that it infects. Or the potential season could center on Warren and Leeza trying to track down the angel and take it down themselves.

However, the final moment of Midnight Mass seems to suggest the angel probably perished. Before the credits roll, Leeza happily tells Warren that she can’t feel her legs. Since she was only able to walk thanks to the angel’s blood, this statement likely means the angel was destroyed and Leeza can no longer benefit from its powers.

While a true second season is probably not in the cards for Midnight Mass, there’s still hope for more. Creator Mike Flanagan could very well turn the show into an anthology series, like he did with his other Netflix horror shows The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. The Haunting series focuses on ghost stories, and a potential Midnight Mass anthology series could tell different supernatural tales with religious connections. For now, fans will just have to wait to see if Flanagan is planning to return to the world of Midnight Mass or not, so keep on praying.

'Bridgerton' Season 1's Alternate Ending Had A Different Lady Whistledown

Here’s a piece of gossip that’s much too juicy even for Lady Whistledown’s newsletter: Bridgerton secretly filmed an alternate ending to Season 1 that would have changed everything. While Daphne’s rollercoaster romance with Duke Simon may have been front and center, the most enticing mystery of the show was who was behind the salacious gossip column that took over the Ton. The final moments of Season 1 revealed Lady Whistledown’s surprising identity, but one of the show’s stars recently said that big revelation almost didn’t happen. That’s right — Bridgerton Season 1 had an alternate ending with a different Lady Whistledown, and it’s probably not who you would’ve expected.

Spoiler alert: Don’t read on if you haven’t finished Bridgerton Season 1. Throughout the first season, Lady Whistledown spilled all the tea in the Ton in her hugely popular missives that could either make or break the social season for a family. Even the Queen herself couldn’t get enough of the gossip, and Eloise was dead-set on figuring out who this elusive writer could be. Well, it turned out the answer was right under her nose. The finale revealed Eloise’s best friend, Penelope Featherington, was Lady Whistledown all along.

Although fans of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels knew Penelope was Lady Whistledown from the get-go, this reveal still came as a surprise. The books don’t reveal Lady Whistledown’s identity until book four, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, so readers likely assumed the show would also tease out the big reveal until Season 4 rather than pulling the trigger in Season 1. According to Penelope’s actor herself, Nicola Coughlan, that actually was the initial plan.

Coughlan confirmed Bridgerton shot an alternate Season 1 ending during Netflix’s TUDUM panel on Saturday, Sept. 25. She shared that the initial ending heavily hinted that rival debutante Cressida Cowper was secretly Lady Whistledown. “It was a reshoot in July, so they had filmed a different ending,” Coughlan said. “They were going to make it seem like it was Cressida Cowper.”

Cressida as Lady Whistledown would have been a massive change, but it also would have made a bit of sense in its own right. After all, Cressida spent pretty much all of Season 1 butting heads with Daphne in competition for the Duke’s affections, and Lady Whistledown was pretty brutal to Daphne on several occasions. Plus, Cressida clearly has no love lost for the rest of the Bridgerton family as well as the Featheringtons, which were also the two main families targeted by Whistledown.

But Coughlan’s statement appears to confirm that it was never the show’s intention to actually make anyone but Penelope Lady Whistledown — the Cressida option would have just been a fake-out before the Penelope reveal in a later season. Instead, Bridgerton clearly opted to just do the big reveal right away. But that doesn’t mean the Whistledown twists are over. Penelope is still keeping her secret, and it’s sure to be explosive if anyone else in the Ton ever discovers it.

Chrissy Teigen's Instagram About Jack's 1-Year Death Anniversary Honored Her Late Son

Sept. 28 marked National Son Day, and it was an especially emotional day for Chrissy Teigen and her husband, John Legend. The couple have two children, Luna Simone and Miles Theodore, and are still healing from the loss of their pregnancy with their son, Jack. National Son Day coincided with the one-year anniversary of his passing, and Teigen shared an emotional, but beautiful tribute to him on Instagram.

Teigen’s Instagram post featured a photo of her and Legend at the hospital just after they found out about the pregnancy loss. In the pic, Legend consoles his wife who has tears streaming down her face. Her coinciding caption was equally as emotional.

"And to the son we almost had,” she wrote. “A year ago you gave me the greatest pain I could ever imagine to show me. I could survive anything, even if I didn’t want to. I didn’t get to take care of you, but you came and went to get me to love myself and take care of myself because our bodies are precious and life is a miracle.”

Teigen went on to say the pain of loss hasn’t gotten easier over time. She wrote, "They told me it would get easier but yeah, that hasn’t started yet. Mom and dad love you forever.”

Teigen first shared the news of pregnancy loss with fans in October 2020. At the time, she posted an emotional Instagram update with photos from the hospital and a message honoring their late son.

"We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before," she wrote in the caption. "We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough."

“To our Jack - I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive,” she said in another part of the post. “We will always love you.”

Teigen has paid tribute to Jack numerous times in the year since his passing. Through her and Legend’s post, it’s evident that although he’s not physically with them, he’s still very much part of the family.

Nick Viall’s Girlfriend Plagiarized His Birthday Instagram... Yikes

Instagram birthday captions can be tricky, and it’s totally normal to get stuck on what to say. But as all of your teachers probably reminded you during syllabus week, plagiarism is never the answer. Unfortunately, Natalie Joy, Nick Viall’s girlfriend, did not get that message — and the result is seriously cringe. Joy plagiarized Viall’s birthday Instagram, taking the caption pretty much word for word from someone else, vlogger Claudia Sulewski, typo (“fariytale”) and all. (Elite Daily reached out to Joy’s rep for comment on the post and did not hear back in time for publication.)

To celebrate Viall’s birthday on IG on Sept. 28, Joy posted a carousel of photos of the two of them together. And her caption seemed sweet and poetic, the goal of most birthday IG captions. She wrote (or copied and pasted):

this man!!!! you are one of the best ones and anyone who’s met you knows it too. I am so lucky to not only share this life with you but to love you, and to be loved by you. you flipped my whole world upside down and given every dream and goal a new meaning and purpose. your sense of humor, honesty, generosity, talent, creativity, drive, heart and passion just blows my mind. cherishing your existence forever!! you tear every single fariytale to shreds. happy birthday baby i love you like nothing else!!

Cute, right? But it was a stark contrast from the other captions on her feed that were more short and sweet. Still, Viall didn’t seem to notice anything amiss. On a later post, he wrote to Joy, “I’ve never had someone put so much consideration and effort into my birthday... Thank you for making today so memorable. Love you.” (Eek!)

Now, I have no doubt that Joy did put “consideration and effort” into celebrating her beau’s birthday. For the special day, they took a trip to New York City, recorded a podcast episode together (with other Bachelor Nation stars), and had a surprise double date night on the water.

Still, Joy’s adorable birthday caption did not come from the heart as much as it came from someone else. The caption is a near-exact copy of two other birthday captions — both from Sulewski for her boyfriend Finneas (aka Billie Eilish’s brother). Twitter was ready with a side-by-side comparison of the posts, and the plagiarism is very obvious.

In short, Joy’s caption was definitely not the most original love letter in the world of Instagram (or otherwise). And people took notice — including Sulewski and Finneas. Finneas retweeted it first, writing, “HAHAHAHAHA LMAOO,” and tagging Sulewski. Minutes later, the vlogger chimed in by retweeting it and quoting the viral TikTok sound, “‘nobody’s gonna know.. they’re gonna know.’” So, yeah, Joy was definitely caught.

Commenting on the IG post, fans also pointed out the plagiarism. One commented, “do you have a discount code that we can use for unpublished birthday captions from claudia? Her public ones have been used already.” Another wrote, “This caption seems familiar, have I read it somewhere before?” A third added, “Happy birthday @finneas.” Oof.

Fingers crossed Joy is able to come up with an explanation for this — and that she uses her own words this time (unless, of course, Sulewski is taking commissions now).

My Latinx Culture Stigmatized Therapy, But It Changed My Life

I was around 7 years old when I first began associating my emotions with shame. Growing up, my mom taught my sister and I that women weren’t supposed to cry, and if they did, they definitely wouldn’t show it. We were supposed to be the backbones of our families, so to exhibit any negative emotions (other than anger) was considered a sign of weakness and an inability to keep a home together. As an overly-sensitive, anxious child growing up in a Latinx, immigrant household, I learned how to disguise my feelings early on. Whenever I got the urge to cry, I’d hide in my bedroom, curl up in the corner between the door and TV console, and silently weep. Only when the moment had passed would I slowly get up and exit my temporary safe haven.

I never judged my mother for what I considered her superwoman ability to hide her emotions. Sometimes I even envied it. Whenever I’d cry over something seemingly trivial, I’d berate myself and wish I was more like her: composed and disciplined. Through her stern demeanor, she also taught my siblings and I to be independent and brave. She did everything on her own, never asked for help, and taught us how to defend ourselves. “Si un muchachito te pega, tú le das para atrás,” she would say, dragging my little legs behind her on our way to school. But despite how much I respected her, I was also frustrated by her toughness and refusal to emote. “It’s OK to cry,” I wanted to tell her. “At least, I would feel like less of a weirdo if you did.”

By the time I got to high school, I had fully adopted her attitude towards emotions, burying mine so deep, in an effort to appear strong, until they eventually unearthed themselves — manifesting as anxiety, depression, and an irrepressible anger. I became so irritable that my family members were scared to approach me in times of distress in case I might snap. I was the television trope of the “crazy,” dramatic Latina from the telenovelas, and I despised how short-tempered I’d become. But what I hated even more was that I had let my mental health go untreated for so long that it got to that point.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, more than half of young Latinx adults ages 18 to 25 with a serious mental illness may not receive treatment due to factors including language barriers, legal status, poverty, and cultural stigmas toward mental health assistance. A 2018 study published in Frontiers in Public Health noted that in the Latinx community needing mental health assistance is often considered embarrassing and disappointing, which dissuades people from seeking treatment. Mental health shame is so pervasive that some Latinx folks even associate antidepressants with illegal drug use and relate depression treatment to the idea of being “crazy.”

Additionally, among all ethnic and racial minority youth groups in the United States, adolescent Latinas have the highest rates of suicidal behavior, which can be attributed to cultural and familial factors. According to a 2008 article in Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, one of those factors is familism, a social behavior pattern that posits one must sacrifice their individual needs for those of the family in order to sustain the “unity and integrity” of it. In machismo culture, another social behavior pattern prevalent in many Latinx communities, women traditionally bear most of the household obligations to the family while the men are expected to provide for it. This can take a toll on a woman’s mental health, especially if she feels neglected or overworked.

Asking for help and showing emotions aren’t signs of weakness — they’re signs of incredible strength.

Determined to not let my mental illness get the best of me, I decided to take advantage of my university’s free mental health resources when I went off to college in 2016 and saw a therapist for the first time — a warmhearted graduate student undergoing her clinical training. After many long, emotional conversations with her, I gained more empathy for my mom and realized her sternness was her way of protecting us. As a Dominican immigrant raising young kids in a racialized country and an underserved community, she was worried for our safety. It wasn’t until I left home and experienced overt racism for the first time at my predominantly white university that I began to truly understand her unbending demeanor was a form of self-preservation. My mom had no intention of inspiring shame by passing on that attitude to us; she was only trying to teach us resilience.

At first, I didn’t tell mamí I was seeking therapy. I figured she would say, “Naydeline, la terapia es para los locos. Tu no eres loca.” Or, as I grew up Catholic, “Lo que tu necesitas es buscar a Dios y leer la Biblia.” But during one of our weekly phone calls (and after five sessions of therapy), I finally fessed up. “Eso esta bueno mija,” she said, but all I heard was, “You did good.” She was shockingly supportive. I think a part of her even felt relieved. She just wanted to see me happy and healthy; to know she had prepared me well enough to take on the world on my own.

I thought my mom would never be able to understand how I felt. But eventually, she became my number one cheerleader when it came to my mental wellbeing. In 2018, when I was at the lowest point of my mental health journey, she encouraged me to seek psychiatric assistance even though she didn’t fully understand it. I knew none of the progress I’d made would’ve been possible if I hadn’t taken the first step to shatter the generational patterns and cultural stigmas I grew up with.

Because of my unrelenting determination to feel safe in both my body and my mind, I became an advocate for myself. By doing so I taught my mom that asking for help and showing emotions aren’t signs of weakness — they’re signs of incredible strength.

Mi cultura latinx estigmatizó la terapia, pero hablar de mis emociones me cambió la vida

Tenía alrededor de 7 años cuando comencé a asociar mis emociones con la vergüenza. Al crecer, mi madre nos enseñó a mi hermana y a mí que las mujeres no deben llorar, y que si lo llegaran a hacer, definitivamente no lo deberían hacer en público. Se suponía que éramos la columna vertebral de nuestras familias, por lo que exhibir cualquier emoción negativa (aparte de la ira) se consideraba un signo de debilidad e incapacidad para mantener un hogar. Como una persona demasiado sensible y ansiosa en un hogar de inmigrantes latinxs, aprendí a disfrazar mis sentimientos desde el principio. Cada vez que tenía ganas de llorar, me escondía en mi habitación, me acurrucaba en la esquina entre la puerta y el televisor y lloraba en silencio. Cuando el sentimiento pasaba, me levantaba y salía despacio de mi rincón.

Cada vez que lloraba por algo aparentemente trivial, me reprendía y deseaba ser más como ella: serena y disciplinada. Hizo todo por su cuenta, nunca pidió ayuda y nos enseñó a defendernos. “Si un muchachito te pega, tú le das para atrás”, decía, arrastrando mis patitas detrás de ella camino a la escuela. Pero a pesar de lo mucho que la respetaba, también me frustraba su dureza y su rechazo a emocionarse. "Está bien llorar", quería decirle. "Al menos, me sentiría menos rara si lo hicieras".

Decidida a no dejar que mi enfermedad mental se apoderara de mí, decidí aprovechar los recursos gratuitos de mi universidad en 2016 y vi a un terapeuta por primera vez. Después de muchas conversaciones largas y emocionales con ella, gané más empatía por mi madre y me di cuenta de que su severidad era su forma de protegernos. Como inmigrante dominicana que crió niños pequeños en un país racializado y una comunidad marginada, estaba preocupada por nuestra seguridad. No fue hasta que me fui de casa y experimenté el racismo por primera vez en mi universidad predominantemente anglo-americana, que comencé a comprender realmente que el comportamiento inflexible de mi madre era una forma de autopreservación. Mi mamá no tenía la intención de inspirar vergüenza al transmitirnos esa actitud; ella solo estaba tratando de enseñarnos resiliencia.

Al principio no le dije a mamí que estaba en terapia. Supuse que diría: “Naydeline, la terapia es para los locos. Tu no eres loca". O, como crecí católica, "lo que tu necesitas es buscar a Dios y leer la Biblia". Pero durante una de nuestras llamadas telefónicas semanales (y después de cinco sesiones de terapia), finalmente se lo confesé. I Woke Up At 5 A.M. Thanks To An Emma Chamberlain YouTube Video

In Elite Daily's I Tried series, we put celebrities’ favorite products, recipes, and routines to the test to show you what living like your fave star is really like. In this piece, we tried waking up at 5 a.m. like Emma Chamberlain does in her recent YouTube video.

Since uploading her first video in 2017, YouTuber Emma Chamberlain has won millions over with her hilarious and relatable content. But Chamberlain is no longer just a YouTuber; she’s also an accomplished businesswoman. In addition to churning out all her vlogs, the 20-year-old hosts a podcast, models for brands like Louis Vuitton, and has her own coffee company. Chamberlain even attended this year’s Met Gala. Considering her extremely busy schedule, it’s no wonder she wakes up at 6:30 a.m. on a regular basis. However, in a recent YouTube video, Chamberlain attempted to get up even earlier than normal, which is how I found myself waking up at 5 a.m. in an effort to emulate her.

In her July 2021 YouTube video, Chamberlain lists the advantages of waking up early, such as helping you deal with depression and anxiety, establish better sleeping patterns, and experience an increase in productivity. However, as much as I trust Chamberlain with matters of health and science, I decided to do a little digging and find expert-vetted research that confirms these supposed benefits — and it turns out, she may be onto something! According to a study conducted by Harvard, MIT, and the University of Colorado Boulder, early risers are less likely to report depression. Furthermore, the report found that waking up just one hour earlier could reduce a person’s chance of depression by 23%. After doing a bit more research, I learned a happier mood is only one of the many benefits waking up early has to offer, supporting Chamberlain’s assertions.

That was enough for me to confidently move forward with this experiment. So, using Chamberlain’s video as a guide, I attempted to follow her early-morning routine. Here’s how it went:

The Preparation

The night before my 5 a.m. wakeup, I cut a FaceTime call with my friend short, citing my early morning. My friend, knowing I’m a late sleeper, was surprised but supportive. I, on the other hand, was already feeling anxious about getting enough sleep.

Around 8:30 p.m., I began to wind down. I showered, brushed my teeth, and donned my favorite pajamas. I even took a melatonin earlier than usual, hoping that would help me fall asleep quicker. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened. One thing led to another and I found myself conversing with my parents, playing with my dog outside, and scrolling on my phone, so I didn’t get into bed until 10:30. I begrudgingly set my phone’s alarm to 4:40 a.m., set an additional alarm for 5 a.m. on my Fitbit as a backup, and then attempted to call it a night, although I still tossed and turned for a while after that. According to my Fitbit’s sleep tracker, I finally fell asleep around 11:30 p.m., which was actually the same time Chamberlain said she fell asleep in her video. So, while I was off to a later start than intended, it was at least an accurate start.

The Wakeup

When my phone’s alarm buzzed at 4:40 a.m. on the morning of my early-wakeup experiment, I instantly hit snooze. I hit snooze again at 4:48 a.m., and once more at 4:56 a.m. When my Fitbit sent my wrist a-buzzing at 5:00 on the dot, however, I finally conceded and got up. (Having to pee helped me get out of bed, too.)

Once I was up, I instantly put on a sweater and sweatpants, as I felt chilly so early in the morning. I was still super tired when I made my way to the bathroom, but splashing some water on my face helped me perk up a bit.

The Rest Of The Day

In her video, the first thing Chamberlain does is make coffee, so that’s exactly what I did. My homemade coffee consisted of Starbucks vanilla sweet creme cold brew mixed with pumpkin spice creamer (because ~fall~) and a splash of oat milk. Since it was so early and somewhat cold outside, I opted to have my coffee warm instead of my usual iced.

Fueled by the coffee, I journaled, just like Chamberlain. I wrote about my monthly goals and did some free writing as well. Although I was an avid journaler in the past, I’ve been too busy for it lately, so it felt really nice to spend 15 uninterrupted minutes with my thoughts. It was almost worth the early wakeup to sit in my backyard and take in the calm and stillness around me.

According to her video, at around 6:30 a.m., Chamberlain drove to her gym and worked out. TBH, I don’t regularly go to a gym, but I *do* go on walks every day with my dog (although they’re usually in the evenings). To try and emulate Chamberlain’s morning exercise, Waffles and I walked from 6:30 to 7:00 a.m. — a nice, long stroll for both of us. Spending time in nature so early in the day was refreshing, and I actually felt super accomplished. I usually listen to music while walking; however, waking up at 5 a.m. inspired me to be more productive, so I decided to listen to the news on an NPR podcast, instead of my usual playlist of Doja Cat, Drake, and Tinashe.

After the gym, Chamberlain went shopping at Trader Joe’s. Although I didn’t need to stock up on groceries, my room needed some cleaning, and it felt like a comparable errand. So, I spent about 45 minutes putting away my laundry, dusting, and tidying up. I felt pretty accomplished, and it was only 8 a.m.! Per the video, Chamberlain then worked on her laptop for a couple of hours, and it just so happened that I also needed to start work around that time, so I continued to follow her lead.

Not even two hours into my workday, I started to feel myself crashing, but 10 a.m. was way too early for a nap, so I drank a couple of energy drinks to keep myself going. Unfortunately, that was only a temporary fix, and I found myself in a sort of haze the rest of the day. After work, I was too tired to really do anything else productive — which kind of defeats the purpose of waking up early, doesn’t it? I was in bed by 9:30 p.m. that night and fell asleep much earlier than usual, grateful that I didn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn again the next day.

Final Thoughts

While waking up at 5 a.m. felt good at first, my plan backfired. I had a few productive hours, but the rest of my day was anything but. I was running on five hours of sleep, which clearly contributed to my fatigue. But oddly enough, I’ve been sleep-deprived before and was able to function just fine, so, for me, there was something specific about waking up before sunrise that made me feel extra tired.

Still, I enjoyed having time for myself in the morning, and crossing off errands on my to-do list so early in the day allowed me to have a much more chill evening. Although I don’t plan to wake up at 5 a.m. again anytime soon, I do want to slowly incorporate earlier mornings into my routine — but at a more realistic time, like 7 a.m., which wouldn’t require copious amounts of caffeine to sustain. After all, it’s not like I own my own coffee company.

Some people love summer for the sand, some for the sun, and some for the chance to watch very hot singles search for love on reality TV. As every good Bachelor Nation fan knows, the warm weather means the chance to watch your favorite contestants from previous Bachelor and Bachelorette seasons flirt and fight on the beach. If you’re wondering who’s left (or who has newly joined) Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 this week, here’s your end-all-be-all BIP newcomer guide.

Season 7 of BIP has been especially awaited since it was actually supposed to happen *last* year. After a very long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, production finally got picked up and in addition to being the safe move, it was clearly worth the wait. Not only are a wide array of celebrities hosting the season, but with two years' worth of contestants to choose from, there were a lot of previously eliminated folks looking for love.

Season 7 started with 23 contestants, but that number is going to fluctuate throughout the season. So, here’s who joined the Bachelor in Paradise cast this week, to either find a love story or ruin one that’s in the process of being written.

Bachelor In Paradise Week 7 Newcomers

Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise is almost over, but that didn’t stop the producers from throwing a few final curveballs — and by that, I mean contestants — into the mix to stir up some final drama. Here’s who joined the cast this week:

After Ivan self-eliminated/sabotaged/got kicked off due to his secret meetup with Alexa Caves (from Peter Weber’s season) when the cast was evacuated during that not-so-scary storm, some newbies joined the cast. First up was Anna, one of the major pot-stirrers on Matt Jame’s season. After reaching out to multiple guys (most of who said they were already paired up), Anna connected with James. The pair went on a 1-on-1 (which involved rolling around in sugar) before sharing a steamy, sticky makeout.

Next up, Mykenna — also from Peter’s season — made her way down to the sand, only to ask Aaron on a date and get rejected. After realizing basically everyone was already paired up (since the season is literally ending next week), Mykenna sat on the beach and cried for a while before Ed asked to go on the date with her. The pair roller-skated around the resort and ended their date with a kiss — which is cute and all, except Ed had been talking to Natasha, who honestly deserves her own damn show at this point.

Fingers crossed the producers realize it’s Natasha’s time to shine and they cast her as the next Bachelorette lead, because if anyone should get the chance to find love, it’s her. Or maybe another twofer season? I feel like Abigail deserves a little justice as well...

Bachelor In Paradise Week 6 Newcomers

Even though there are some very established couples on the beach (looking at you, Serena and Joe; Noah and Abigail), these newcomers hit the shore in the Sept. 21 episode to try to find love:

After Joe and Kendall had a serious convo about where they stood, the latter self-eliminated when she realized things were officially over with the grocer. In an effort to help the remaining women who weren’t yet paired up find love, Ed and Demar joined the cast with a date card in hand. After chatting with a few contestants, Ed invited Natasha on the date, while Demar asked Chelsea out. The foursome did a sultry painting class, which ended in a steamy Ed/Natasha makeout.

With the end of the season in sight, Ed and Natasha weren’t the only Week 6 success story. Kenny and Mari exchanged “I’m falling in love with yous”, as did Riley and Maurissa. But just when it seemed like the episode was going to end on a sunny note, a “dangerous tropical storm” approached, which caused all the contestants to have to pack up and evacuate from the beach... only to come back immediately after the storm blew over to pick up where they left off, seemingly unscathed. A close call indeed.

Unfortunately, everyone could only relax for about a minute, because they went straight into a pre-rose ceremony cocktail party. With eight women giving out roses and 12 guys left, it looks like four men will be sent home next week, this time due to stormy relationships and not stormy weather.

Bachelor In Paradise Week 5 Newcomers

It wouldn’t be Bachelor in Paradise without random new contestants getting added to the cast just when couples were getting settled. Watch your brackets, Bachelor Nation, because here’s who joined the beach this week:

For the first time in what seems like the entire season, the newcomers who arrived at the beach managed to not cause a ton of drama. After Brendan Morais and Pieper James self eliminated and fan-favorite Demi Burnett (as well as Jessenia Cruz, Deandra Kanu, and Tammy Ly) all got sent home roseless, it was time to bring in some new potential matches... as well as celeb host Lil Jon.

In an effort to create more matches in Paradise, two guys from Clare Crawley’s season — Blake Monar and Dr. Joe Park — came to the shores looking for love. While it seemed like Dr. Joe and Natasha Parker might become a thing, after she told him about her history with Brendan (who happens to be close friends Dr. Joe), their bond quickly cooled. Luckily, it looks like more new guys are arriving next week, which means all hope isn’t lost for more connections to be made in Mexico this season.

Bachelor In Paradise Week 4 Newcomers

It’s a new week in the dystopian resort that is Paradise, and with more drama comes more singles getting added to the Bachelor in Paradise cast. Here’s who washed ashore this week:

Week 4 brought drama, exes, and one of the wildest villain edits to date. The Monday episode finally caused a few love triangles to come to a head. First, Kendall Long, Grocery Store Joe’s ex, marched directly onto the beach and confronted Joe about the end of their relationship. After chatting, they seemed to come to the conclusion that things were over, and Joe went back to Serena P. to tell her he understood it was a weird situation, but that he wanted to keep building his connection with her.

If that love triangle wasn’t messy enough, Brendan’s rumored pre-Paradise love interest, Pieper James (from Matt James’ season), finally arrived. It became very clear very quickly that the two seemingly had a plan going into Paradise: Right off the bat, Pieper said she was specifically there for Brendan, and after a 1-on-1 date, they were attached at the hip and Brendan told Natasha things were over. Luckily that’s where Monday night ended, because, woof.

On Tuesday, things got a little more fun with a party hosted by Tituss Burgess with a musical performance by Cruel Summer’s Olivia Holt. The catch: Only a handful of the contestants were invited to the party, and some new singles were brought in to mingle with them: Alana Milne, Chelsea Vaughn, Mykenna Dorn, and Alayah Benavidez. And if the newcomers made a connection, they would get to join the official BIP cast. It was like a Paradise within a Paradise.

During the party, despite having a connection with Jessenia, Chris C. made out with Alana, who then joined the cast the next day. The two went on a 1-on-1, and Jessenia wrote Chris off completely. When Chris came back from the date, a handful of contestants confronted him and said it wasn’t cool what they did, so Chris and Alana packed their bags and self-eliminated, leaving the show decidedly not together.

Luckily, things went a little better for Chelsea Vaughn, who also joined the Paradise cast following the Olivia holt party. She went on a 1-on-1 date with Aaron, and their date didn’t end with either of them leaving the beach, so I’d count that as a win!

No word on whether the other two women from the party, Alayah and Mykenna, will end up on the beach at a later date, or whether their brief cameos at the party are all fans are going to see from them.

Bachelor In Paradise Week 3 Newcomers

Another week, another new round of singles were added to the Bachelor in Paradise cast. Here’s who arrived to the beach to cause some waves:

The Monday, Aug. 30, episode immediately brought in Chris C. and Chasen, both of whom were on Season 16 of The Bachelorette. The duo got a double date card, so Chris asked Jessenia while Chasen asked Deandra. Upon returning from the date, Jessenia broke things off with Ivan because she felt more of a spark with Chris, and Karl tried to win Deandra by giving her a charm bracelet. Which in turn, led Chasen to give her a very sparkly chain necklace, and eventually, resulted in both guys getting sent home when Deandra gave Ivan her rose as a gesture of friendship.

Chasen's arrival also low-key broke up another relationship. Mari, feeling like she wanted to ~keep her options open~ with the new guys, expressed her desire to Kenny, which is how Kenny and Demi ended up in the Boom Boom Room and Mari ended up sobbing on the beach. Speaking of the Boom Boom Room, Connor finally found out about Riley and Maurissa's visit there and was, rightfully, hurt. Then, as advertised, Becca Kufrin (the first-ever former Bachelorette to join the BIP cast) arrived to Paradise, which caused pretty much everyone to panic. Ultimately, she gave her rose to Aaron, and since Tre and Tahzjuan both self-eliminated, the only other guy to get the boot during the rose ceremony was Connor.

For one final dose of drama, Tia Booth — who dated Colton Underwood on BIP Season 5 — joined the beach, asked Kenny on a date, and pissed Demi TF off. While it’s unclear who Kenny’ll pick next week when he has a rose to hand out, it’s clear there’ll be drama either way. Not only with Demi, but with Grocery Store Joe and Serena as well, because it looks like Joe’s ex, Kendall Long, is officially making her way to Paradise next week. Hold onto your cocktails, folks. The chaos is just getting started.

Bachelor In Paradise Week 2 Newcomers

Here’s who joined the Bachelor in Paradise cast this week to find love, ruin some bonds, or a little of both:

During the Monday, Aug. 23 episode, the newly-arrived Demi started connecting with Brendan Morais, only to feel denied after he said he wanted to keep his options open. Then, the Aug. 24 episode brought in Riley and Thomas, both of whom quickly caused some drama. Riley connected with Maurissa Gunn, who had already bonded with Connor “The Cat” Brennan. Meanwhile, Thomas caused many of the guys to get on edge.

In case you forgot, Thomas was a source of drama on Katie Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette, so it seemed like the contestants weren’t exactly enthused to see him on the beach. However, there’s one guy who may not have beef with him. Even though Thomas took Serena Pitt on a fun date on the water, she told him she didn’t want to pursue a relationship with him; instead, she wanted to continue exploring her bond with Joe Amabile (aka Grocery Store Joe). The episode ended just before a rose ceremony — in which the women will be the ones handing out the roses — which means at least a few guys will be going home next week. Now taking bets on whether or not Thomas sticks around!

Bachelor In Paradise Week 1 Newcomers

The first episode of Season 7 was pretty much just an intro to all of the cast members. But just when it seemed like the originally announced Paradisians would be only singles looking for love on the beach in Episode 1, another Bachelor Nation alumna arrived during the final moments of the episode. Demi Burnett stepped onto the sand claiming she was going to “steal everyone’s men,” so it seems like some drama has definitely washed ashore.

In case you forgot, Demi was on Season 6 of BIP, when fans saw her love story with Kristian Haggerty play out. While the couple made history for being the first same-sex couple to leave the BIP beach engaged, they split in October 2019.

With every season in the Bachelor franchise, there’s a new lead and a whole new cast of contestants to get to know. But it’s not every season that fans get to know a whole new host. On Sept. 28, ABC announced Jesse Palmer will be the host of the upcoming season of The Bachelor. He’ll take on the role after Chris Harrison stepped down in summer 2021. Bachelor Nation will be spending a lot of time with Jesse in 2022 for Season 26 of The Bachelor, so here’s everything you need to know about him to get ready.

Season 26 will be the first season of The Bachelor since the franchise became host-less. Since then, Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 has been hosted by a group of rotating celebrity hosts, and The Bachelorette is being hosted by former Bachelorettes Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe. No decision has been yet whether or not Jesse will be the permanent host of The Bachelor moving forward, but he definitely has the gig for this next season.

In a statement released by ABC, he said of this new gig:

1. Jesse is a former Bachelor.

Jesse is no stranger to Bachelor Nation. Back in 2004, he was the Season 5 Bachelor. At the end of his season, he chose Jessica Bowlin, but they broke up shortly after. One of his most memorable moments as Bachelor happened early on in his season, when he said the wrong name during his first rose ceremony. Hopefully the next Bachelor won’t follow Jesse’s lead with that one.

2. Jesse is an experienced host.

After his time as the Bachelor, Jesse became a sports commentator on ESPN and hosted shows like The Proposal, Holiday Baking Championship, and ABC’s Disney Parks holiday specials. Most recently, he hosted The Ultimate Surfer on ABC. So, it seems like hosting The Bachelor is totally in Jesse’s wheelhouse.

3. Jesse is a former football player.

Before he went on The Bachelor, Jesse was a quarterback in the NFL; he played for both the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers. He then went back to his home country of Canada to play in the CFL for the Montreal Alouettes.

4. Jesse knows how to find lasting love.

In 2019, Jesse got engaged to Brazilian model Emely Fardo during a trip to France. In his Instagram post about their engagement, he wrote, “I asked for an angel to be brought into my life...and it was you.”

Ivan & Alexa's 'Bachelor In Paradise' Drama, Explained

With Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise coming to a close, there’s not much time left to pack in the drama. And since the show is all about horny singles and heated convos, it checks out that there’d be a few final, fiery love triangles to stir things up before proposals. So, when Ivan Hall and Aaron Clancy got in a fight over Chelsea Vaughn, things got understandably messy. But it turns out, it was Ivan and Alexa Caves who really caused a stir on Bachelor in Paradise.

Up until now, Ivan wasn’t really a part of any BIP drama worth remembering — at least, nothing compared to the whole Brendan/Pieper catastrophe. But it turns out, there was actually a lot more to the random Week 6 love triangle drama than viewers originally thought. At first, it seemed like Ivan spoke with (then made out with) Chelsea, who was currently talking to Aaron. Dramatic, sure. But not “take up 20 minutes of the second-to-last episode of the season” dramatic. It turns out, though, Chelsea and Aaron weren’t the reason for all the Ivan attention — it was Alexa.

In case you’re like, “Wait, there’s no Alexa on Paradise,” you’re absolutely right. There was, however, an Alexa at the hotel where the BIP cast retreated to when they were evacuated during a storm during Week 6. Told ya it was dramatic!

Basically, Ivan had been hoping Alexa Caves (from Peter Weber’s Bachelor season) would make her way to the beach this season. So when the cast had to retreat to a different hotel during Week 6’s storm threat, he learned Alexa was staying there as well (presumably waiting to join the show later on in the season), Ivan decided to shoot his shot.

After learning what room Alexa was in (thanks to a little snooping on a producer’s phone, apparently), Ivan went to meet up with her, and the two chatted on the balcony for a while before “spending a few hours together,” per Ivan’s recollections. Ahead of the Week 7 Rose Ceremony, Wells Adams confronted Ivan about the situation before Ivan tearfully apologized to the bartender/host as well as the rest of the cast. Ivan then peaced TF out and Chelsea gave Aaron her rose at the ceremony.

Case in point: Michelle Young’s season of The Bachelorette hasn’t begun yet, but fans can already take a look at the 30 women in line to be on the next Bachelor season.

The next Bachelor hasn’t been officially announced yet, although Bachelor creator and producer Mike Fleiss confirmed the lead will be a guy from Michelle’s season. Fans have started speculating about which of Michelle’s guys will step into the lead role in 2022, but they don’t have to guess when it comes to the rest of the cast of the season. ABC released the names and photos of the possible contestants for Season 26 of The Bachelor, so fans can start predicting who will fare best in the journey to find love with the mysterious new Bachelor. Plus, Michelle’s season of The Bachelorette premieres Oct. 19, 2021, and that’ll give fans their first look at the guy who will step into the spotlight for the next season of The Bachelor.

The Bachelor Season 26 Premiere Date

The premiere date for Season 26 of The Bachelor hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s slated to air sometime in 2022.

The Bachelor Season 26 Host

On Sept. 28, ABC announced former Bachelor Jesse Palmer will take over the show’s hosting role from Chris Harrison. In addition to starring in Season 5 of The Bachelor in 2004, Jesse was also a sports commentator on ESPN and a special contributor on Good Morning America. Most recently, he hosted The Ultimate Surfer, so he’s no stranger to hosting duties.

In a statement released by ABC, he said:

For more than 20 years, The Bachelor has brought the world dozens of unforgettable love stories, including at one time, my own. Falling in love is one of life’s greatest gifts, and I am humbled by the opportunity to return to the show as host this season to offer the newest Bachelor advice gained from firsthand experience and I am grateful to play a small part in his journey.

The Bachelor Season 26 Cast

The lead for The Bachelor Season 26 hasn’t been announced yet, but fans do have a couple of hints about his identity. In addition to letting fans know the next Bachelor is a part of Michelle’s season, Fleiss also let fans know that the new lead’s name starts with the letter “C.” Several news outlets have indicated the Bachelor will be Clayton Echard, and Fleiss’ hints back that up. But, no news about the lead has been confirmed yet.

When Is The 'Bachelor In Paradise' Season 7 Finale? It's Soon

As the temperatures drop and pumpkin spice makes its grand return to shelves everywhere, we’re reminded that all good things must come to an end, even summer fun. And in Bachelor Nation, that summer fun is also known as Bachelor in Paradise. With the end of summer also comes the Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 finale, so get ready to say goodbye to the beach... at least until next summer.

Bachelor in Paradise is making a big splash to end this season with two super-sized episodes to close things out. The last two episodes of Season 7 are each three hours long. First, fans can enjoy three hours of drama in the season’s penultimate episode on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET. Then, the Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 three-hour finale will air on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. ET.

A few couples seem to be pretty solid heading into the final stretch, like Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt. But, other couples aren’t quite as secure, like Aaron Clancy and Chelsea Vaughn. In Week 6, Chelsea shared a flirtatious moment with Ivan Hall, sparking a whole lot of drama in the last-minute scramble to leave the beach engaged.

With all the drama this season — and there’s been a whole lot, thanks to several accused “clout-chasers” on the beach — it can be easy to forget that the main goal of this whole Paradise thing is to end up in a relationship. The convenience of dating apps and the massive amount of people you can meet on them have changed the dating game forever. But with all the good dating apps can do, they can also make life hella complicated. Say, for instance, you're going about your happily coupled-up life when you discover your partner is still on a dating app, even though they're in a monogamous relationship with you. ~Record scratch.~ You're probably wondering what the person you believed to be very much off the market is doing swiping left and right.

In a case like this, Eric Resnick, a professional dating profile writer and online dating coach, tells Elite Daily you shouldn't panic. According to research by student loan marketplace LendEDU, a significant portion of young people use Tinder as a distraction or confidence boost, rather than to actually meet someone. Your girlfriend or boyfriend popping up on the dating app could just be a result of their desire for external validation. Although, another study by Statista Research Department on motivation for all dating apps, not just Tinder, found that the majority of users were there to find a romantic partner. The same study also revealed that 6% of users reported using the apps to cheat on their partners. So, without assuming the worst, you do have valid reason to be concerned.

Nevertheless, get to the bottom of things and ask your partner why they're still on a dating app when they're clearly in a relationship. Here's what experts suggest to do if you find your girlfriend or boyfriend on a dating site.

Why Your Partner Might Be On A Dating App

So, you caught your partner on a dating app. Whether you found out through a friend who found them or a spontaneous swiping spree of your own, it’s important to keep an open mind and not jump to the worst conclusions. As Julie Spira, online dating expert and author of Love in the Age of Trump: How Politics is Polarizing Relationships, tells Elite Daily, there may be a handful of reasons why they're popping up.

“[It could be that] they deleted their profile from their phone but didn't deactivate it,” she says. “This falls into the category of digital housekeeping. Not everyone knows exactly how to permanently delete a dating profile. I've even seen profiles of people who were happily married who had no idea their profile was still lingering on a dating app. If this is the case, your partner should download the app again, and together, change the settings to delete the dating app instead of just removing it,” she explains. Your girlfriend or boyfriend could very well be on dating apps because of an innocent oversight.

It could also be what Resnick suggested: They're just looking at profiles with no intention of engaging. But Spira says this behavior could be a bad sign when it comes to the ongoing health of your relationship. “This activity probably means they're questioning your relationship [or] wondering who else is out there,” she explains. “This is a form of emotional cheating, but it isn't the end of the world. If this is the case, it's time to communicate about what your partner likes about your relationship and address areas that could be improved.”

If your partner is "actively matching, chatting, and meeting others behind your back,” Spira says this can be considered cheating "unless you've agreed to an open relationship.” Ultimately, there's only one way to determine which of these scenarios you’re dealing with: Talk to them about it.

How To Process Your Feelings About It

What to do if you find your partner on dating apps will depend largely on the nature of your relationship. “Are you still in that getting-to-know-you phase, or have you become exclusive?" Resnick asks. "If it's the former, just let it be. You haven't committed to each other, and what they do isn't your business.” If it still bothers you, Resnick says you may want more from the relationship, and it may be time to talk to the person you're dating about where you stand. “If you decide that it's time to go exclusive, then you can ask if they are still on any dating sites," he suggests. "It is not uncommon for people in a relationship to ceremonially delete their dating accounts together.”

If you're already exclusive and find your partner's online dating profile is still active, Diana Dorell, intuitive dating coach and author of The Dating Mirror: Trust Again, Love Again, says having an honest conversation about what you found is important. “Decide what you want to do about it. If you want to keep the relationship, then a calm, cool approach is best,” she tells Elite Daily.

One tactic all the experts say to avoid is catfishing. Don’t make a fake profile just to try messaging your partner and seeing if they respond. “No one wants to be with a partner who's a stalker, and before you start accusing your steady beau of cheating, you should try to find out what's going on,” says Spira. “Know that if you create a fake profile to catch them in the act, you can kiss your relationship goodbye.”

How To Approach Your Partner

Once you've taken a deep breath and feel ready to talk to your partner, Dorell suggests considering what you want to achieve with the conversation so you can be intentional in your approach: “Decide what it is you want. Is it to feel heard? For them to admit it so you don't feel crazy? To break up?" Before making any sort of accusations, she suggests gathering evidence. Spira says to be direct. “If you've agreed to be exclusive, and you've both taken down your profiles, I recommend you say the following: ‘My friend [insert name] was swiping right on Tinder, and somehow she got matched with you.’ Then show your partner the screenshot and button your lips because it's time to listen to the explanation," she says.

Dorell agrees it's essential to give your partner plenty of space to respond. “Pay attention to your intuition. You'll know if they are lying because your body will tell you," she explains. "Your job in this conversation is to get to the truth, and that's something you'll know within you. Then, you can decide what you want to do next.”

Ultimately, it will be up to you and your partner to determine what happens next. Maybe they'll log in, delete their profile once and for all, and you can proceed as you were. On the other hand, you might decide to go your separate ways and move on. The key is to trust your intuition and do what feels right for you.

“If you find out your partner has a second life on a dating app, know that you're not alone," says Spira. "It takes a few minutes to create or reactivate a dating profile, and if you're not their one-and-only, about 50 million plus other singles are waiting to meet you.” Hang in there, you've got this.

Just as Krispy Kreme’s initial fall celebration came to an end on Sept. 26, which marked the last day of the chain’s three limited-edition fall doughnuts, your go-to glazed doughnut spot delivered in a big way. Although the newest baked treats have a familiar shape (and a fan-favorite ingredient) as the doughnuts you know and love, the launch of Krispy Kreme Cinnamon Rolls marks the debut of a brand new sweet for the company. Krispy Kreme’s new Cinnamon Roll offerings officially landed in stores nationwide on Monday, Sept. 27, and they’re a tasty twist on the OG treats you know and love.

Flavors:

The lineup features two flavors you can choose from: Original Glazed Cinnamon Roll and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnamon Roll. TBH, both sound like they’ll pair well with your PSL. Both doughnuts start off with a super light and airy yeast-raised dough before being hand-rolled in cinnamon. After baking, the treats are then finished off with the brand’s Original Glaze.

If you opt for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch variety, you’ll get a crunchy spin on the OG version since it’s topped off with whole pieces of — you guessed it — Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and a swirl of cereal milk icing.

The new Cinnamon Rolls launched on Monday, Sept. 27, and they’ll be available at participating U.S. Krispy Kreme shops through Sunday, Oct. 10. You can buy Krispy Kreme’s new Cinnamon Rolls online and in-store.

Pro tip: Since there are only a limited number of Cinnamon Rolls available daily, it’s a good idea to make morning visits to Krispy Kreme part of your routine this season before they disappear for good.

Pricing will depend on the location, but for reference, a four-pack of Cinnamon Rolls from a Chicago location costs $9.19 on the Krispy Kreme app. Both Cinnamon Roll varieties are available individually as well as in the Cinnamon Roll four-count box, which comes with two each of the Original Glazed Cinnamon Rolls and Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cinnamon Rolls, if you’re into sharing.

Salley Carson Was Reportedly Engaged Before Filming ‘The Bachelor’ Season 26

If all goes according to schedule, the next season of The Bachelor won’t air until January 2022, but over three months ahead of the premiere, we have our first rumored controversy. According to Bachelor Nation’s resident spoiler blogger Reality Steve, one upcoming contestant was reportedly engaged to be married… less than a month ago. As in, she reportedly had a bachelorette party in August 2021 and was set to get married on Sept. 26. These days, it takes a lot for this franchise to surprise me, but this might be a Bachelor Nation first.

On Sept. 25, ABC published photos of 33 contestants who may appear on the upcoming Season 26. Among them was Salley Carson, a 26-year-old from Greenville, South Carolina. The same day, Reality Steve shared screenshots of Instagram posts and a Facebook profile reportedly linked to Carson. “Hearing a ton of stuff already about these women, but this one has me floored: Salley Carson was engaged & having her bachelorette party a month ago,” he tweeted. “She was set to be married TOMORROW but [the] wedding was called off a couple weeks ago.”

Another popular spoiler account, @bachelornation.scoop on Instagram, shared several unverified DMs about Carson. Two anonymous insiders “confirmed” that Carson’s rumored ex-fiancé, Avery Buchholz, was reportedly still legally married to someone else all along.

To be clear, there isn’t enough evidence to prove anything — Carson’s social media profiles are private, and the only public “proof” is a Crate & Barrel wedding registry in her name. The registry does imply someone named Salley Carson was set to marry someone named Avery Buchholz on Sept. 26, though, so do with that information what you will.

ABC hasn’t officially announced the next Bachelor lead, but creator and producer Mike Fleiss teased the decision on Sept. 15. “Your new #TheBachelor is a great guy from Michelle’s season of #TheBachelorette. Can’t wait for you to meet him!” he wrote. An hour later, he added, “His first name starts with the letter ‘C.’”

This narrows the Bachelor pool down to four guys, but sources including Us Weekly have revealed the pick is reportedly Eureka, Missouri native Clayton Echard. “Producers ended up going with him because they believed he was the best fit for the role,” an insider told Us Weekly in September 2021. “They wanted to switch things up and go with someone new and someone who hasn’t been in the spotlight yet.”

Echard also seemed to confirm his new role in a video shared by St. Louis’ Fox channel on Sept. 16: He told a cheering crowd he was “excited” but “also a little nervous” to find his “person.” Whether or not the rumor about Carson is true, for Echard’s sake, let’s just hope his contestants are here for the right reasons.

If I’m being totally honest, Clare Crawley and Dale Moss’ breakup did not come as a complete surprise — at least, not to me. On social media, there were some signs that things were not totally rosy for the two of them. Between Crawley ignoring Moss’ birthday to her sharing a cryptic post about trust on her IG Story, things were looking very ~eh~ for this duo. Even in their last post together, a photo from their double date night at the U.S. Open (with Bachelor Nation’s Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes), Crawley and Moss seemed, well, off.

Patti Wood, body language expert and author of Snap: Making the Most of First Impressions, Body Language, and Charisma, explains the awkwardness in the Sept. 9 photo to Elite Daily. “There's a lot of tension,” she says. Considering the news of their reported breakup came out on Sept. 27 (quick math: only 18 days later!), it sounds like Wood’s interpretation is right on.

Not to mention, according to Wood, “It seems like he's probably the one who left her.” 👀 Here’s how she breaks down the photo.

They Are “Out Of Sync”

According to Wood, Crawley and Moss aren’t mirroring each other’s stance in the photo — a clear sign that they aren’t 100% on the same page. “Crawley is matching and mirroring [Thurston], so it takes her out of sync with [Moss]. She's not in alignment or matching him.”

Things Look Tense

Wood also points to some serious tension in their posture, especially Crawley’s. “Notice the couple's feet, how tense their lower legs are. There's a lot of tension.” Plus, it looks like she’s ready to walk away from him. “She is standing fairly far away. It's still within a 10-inch range, but she's standing — she's bringing her leg, her one leg and her foot, as far away from him [...] as she can.”

Not to mention, her smile looks “strained.” Wood explains, “You can see she's conflicted and trying to smile but holding back tears, holding back sadness.” In comparison, Moss’ smile is much more relaxed. (Part of the reason Wood suspects he was the one to initiate the split.)

Crawley Has Her Guard Up

Wood pinpoints Crawley’s hand as “the most interesting” piece of the body language puzzle. “She's reaching back for him, but she's not — it's a mixture of reaching back and hitting away. If she was in a full reach-back, her fingers would be tucked at the knuckles and you'd see more of a bend or reach-back with the rest of the arm. But it's more like, ‘Oh, yeah, we're supposed to be a couple.’”

And her other hand placement is just as telling, per Wood. “If you look at where that other hand placement is [gripping her purse strap], that's at her heart. So, she's holding her heart together there.”

It looks like Moss knows it, too. Despite his easy smile, his body language also shows some discomfort. “He's got his hand on her shoulder. But if you look at the fingers, instead of them being relaxed, splayed out, it's almost like, ‘I'm afraid I'll feel burned,’” Wood tells Elite Daily.

Whether they really are done for good or not, Crawley and Moss’ body language doesn’t look too promising. But, hey, they’ve definitely gotten through worse.
