Nicole Kidman Straight-Up Kissed Alexander Skarsgard At The Emmys In Front Of Her Husband
So, something happened at the Emmys. Something weird and I don't know that I'm OK with it yet Nicole Kidman kissed someone who wasn't Keith Urban AND WE ALL SAW IT. Nicole Kidman kissed Alexander Skarsgard at the Emmys and Twitter erupted with confusion, hostility, and some amazing jokes.
OK, I know what you're thinking — it wasn't some random make out sesh, it was to celebrate Skarsguard's win for Outstanding Supporting Actor. Alexander Skarsgard plays Kidman's TV husband on Big Little Lies. If you haven't watched this show, YOU SERIOUSLY NEED TO. In the series, Kidman played Celeste, a mother of two who was being abused by her husband, Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) in private. In various scenes, Perry would hit and choke Celeste, usually as a lead-in to having sex. Both pretty kinky and hard to watch.
Kidman actually opened up to W Magazine about the level of difficulty these scenes were to act out. She said,
I felt very exposed and vulnerable and deeply humiliated at times. I mean, I remember lying on the floor in the bathroom at the very end when we were doing the scenes in Episode 7, and I was lying on the floor and I just wouldn't get up in-between takes. I was just lying there, sort of broken and crying, and I remember at one point [director] Jean-Marc [Vallée] coming over and just sort of placing a towel over me because I was just lying there in half-torn underwear and just basically on the ground with nothing on and I was just, like [gasps].
Kidman recalled crying on the bathroom floor between scenes. Despite the turmoil, Kidman understood the importance of showing the horrors of domestic abuse:
I would have flashes of images of women that have gone through this and I'm like, 'This is authentic, this is the truth and this is what I have to do.'
Don't worry, Perry gets his. Their characters may have a twisted relationship on screen, but IRL all the co-stars are extremely close.
I could go on and on explaining how powerful Big Little Lies is — I think 16 Emmy nominations speaks for itself — but let's get back to this juicy kiss. So, playing husband and wife on TV means that Kidman and and Skarsgard would have a special relationship. But, kiss-Skarsgard-in-front-of-Keith-Urban close? Hubba, hubba, I've got to break into that acting game.
Needless to say, Twitter saw the kiss and had questions.
What. A. Legend.
I love Keith's innocent smile. He even got cut out of the camera shot. Womp, womp.
He's just standing there smiling and clapping. I'm dead.
Honestly, I can't with this kiss. This is the funniest thing to ever happen to me and Keith Urban. Obviously, Urban and Kidman are a strong couple and the kiss with Skarsgard was strictly friendly. Some people are just lip-kissers. Right? RIGHT?!
Let's shift focus from this kiss for a second. *Says while constantly thinking about steamy kiss.* Let's focus on the good news that Big Little Lies could come back for Season 2. The stars of the show and the author of the source book have all voiced their enthusiasm for continuing the series.
Liane Moriarty, the author of the book Big Little Lies, says she's been thinking up some ideas for new stories with the ladies of Monterey, particularly fleshing out Bonnie's backstory and delving in Celeste's life after that finale shocker in season one.
But while it may seem like everyone's on board for round two of Big Little Lies, one of the most prominent creative forces behind the first season is against making another season. Series director Jean Marc-Vallée said he thinks doing another season would spoil the magic of the first one.
Hmmm... I guess we'll have to wait and see. I WOULD LIKE NOTHING MORE. Until we find out for sure, I guess I'll keep watching the GIF of Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard's kiss. Almost as good.
