If popularity was measured by Twitter mentions, BTS would definitely win "Most Liked." Oh wait, it kind of is and they totally did. Twitter revealed their data for the year (rightly named "Year on Twitter 2017"), and there were a lot of surprising names that popped up. The amount of tweets about BTS prove that the Korean boy band has a bigger fanbase than some other huge musicians, like, Harry Styles and Justin Bieber.

Twitter unloaded their data from 2017, which included information detailing the most-tweeted about celebrities, songs most frequently hashtagged, and so much more from tons of different fields. When it came to music, the K-Pop group reigned globally as the most tweeted about celebrity. Yes, there are seven members, but for the purpose of this list, think of BTS as one unit.

The top 10 list from Twitter is:

  1. BTS
  2. SVT (K-Pop band)
  3. Camila Cabello
  4. Justin Bieber
  5. Maine Mendoza (Filipino actress)
  6. Niall Horan
  7. Harry Styles
  8. Ethan Dolan
  9. Grayson Dolan
  10. Monsta X (K-Pop boy band)

2017 was truly the year of K-Pop — globally and locally. BTS not only topped the international chart, but they also slid in the first spot for the most tweeted about musician in the United States. The U.S. list ranks:

  1. BTS
  2. Harry Styles
  3. Niall Horan
  4. Justin Bieber
  5. Nicki Minaj
  6. Chance the Rapper
  7. Fifth Harmony
  8. Shawn Mendes
  9. Rihanna
  10. Ariana Grande

The rest of the list seems pretty predictable. Honestly, Justin Bieber sparking things up with Selena Gomez probably bumped him up a few spots on the list. Actually, I'm a little surprised Gomez didn't make the top 10 — v suspicious.

Also, please note that Fifth Harmony secured the seventh spot, but that does not include Camila Cabello. After Cabello's abrupt exit from the group, that has to be a little awkward. On the other hand, BTS seems stronger than ever.

BTS made a huge impact at this year's Billboard Music Awards. The group got a lot of attention when they beat out Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes for top social artist during the show. The BBMAs are usually a relatively normal and uneventful awards show, but this year, according to Teen Vogue, it ranked as "one of the top three most tweeted-about global televised events of the year." This is a pretty huge accomplishment the band helped the awards show achieve.

BTS, aka the Bangtan Boys, is made up of seven members: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They've been big in South Korea since 2012. Now, they have obviously made it in the United States, too.

So what makes these guys so popular? Honestly, they just make some damn good bops. One of their most popular songs "DNA" is actually super romantic.

The English translation of "DNA" reads:

I knew you from first sight. As if we have been calling for each other. The DNA in my veins tells me. You’re the one I’ve been searching for.
Our meeting is a mathmatical formula. Religious commandments, law of the universe. The proof of fate that has been given to me. You are the source of my dreams. Take it take it. Destiny’s been chosen to the hand that I extend to you.
Don’t worry love. All of this is not a coincidence. We are totally different baby. The two of us found fate.
From the day the universe was birthed. Over the infinite centuries. In our past lives and probably in our next too. We are together eternally.
All of this is not a coincidence. The two of us found fate, DNA.
I want it this love, I want it real love. I only focus on you. You’re pulling me in a little harder. My DNA wants you from the beginning. This is destiny I love us. We are the only true lovers.
Every time I see her, I’m in shock. It’s fascinating and weird how I can’t breathe. Maybe this is what they say what love is. Because my heart beats for you from the beginning.
Don’t look back. Because we found fate. Don’t regret, baby. Forever, forever, forever, forever. We are together.
Don’t worry, love. All of this is not a coincidence. We are totally different, baby. The two of us found fate.
La la la la la. La la la la la. Because it’s not a coincidence. La la la la la. La la la la la. Because it’s not a coincidence, DNA.

Now mix that with their amazing synchronized dancing that gives me all the nostalgic boy band feels:

That's the charm of BTS. You're welcome. If you're new to the K-Pop world, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the selection of music. As for BTS, I think we're going to see even bigger things soon.
