This Theory About The End Of 'AHS: Cult' Is The Scariest Thing We've Read

American Horror Story is deep into its seventh installment — Cult — and, episode by episode, things are getting darker. So far, we've seen clowns murdering civilians and bumpin' uglies in grocery stores, people being buried alive, and arms getting sawed off, but none of those horrors compares to one truly terrifying AHS: Cult theory that suggests Kai may become a Congressman or POTUS by the season's end.

Indeed, it's known that Kai is already running for a seat on the City Council board in his town; he even went so far as to have Councilman Cheng murdered by the clown cult in order to leave a vacancy for him to fill. As trivial as a seat on his town's zoning board may seem, one Redditor thinks Kai's running for the open spot may just be a stepping stone to get him to a place of real power, like the Michigan state Senate or (*gulp*) the White House.

Given the political nature of this season, and how Murphy is toying with society's authentic fears in the aftermath of T***p's election, it wouldn't be surprising if Kai's demagoguery does eventually land him in a position of considerable power.

Indeed, ahead of Cult's premiere, Ryan Murphy revealed some interesting details about the season to Collider, telling the outlet,

It’s not about Trump. It’s not about Clinton. It’s about somebody who has the wherewithal to put their finger up in the wind and see what’s happening, and is using that to rise up, and using people’s vulnerabilities about how they’re afraid, they’re feeling vulnerable, and they don’t know where to turn. We’ve been very conscious of that in the writing, to make sure that that idea is central to the show.

Clearly the "somebody" Murphy refers to here is Kai, and the idea that he uses clever wherewithal to "rise up" and recruit new members for his cult is immediately obvious in the first episodes of the season. Whether or not that wherewithal will aid Kai in his pursuit of real political power remains to be seen, but we'll certainly find out in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, other, similar theories expand on the idea that Kai will ascend to the presidency and suggest Ally will become Kai's first lady when he is POTUS. Earlier this year, Ryan Murphy teased via his Instagram that Ally and Kai would have "a love story for the ages"; since then, fans of the show have been waiting to see how (if at all) these two will come together, especially considering how tense and confusing their current relationship is. One Redditor even suggests a scene where Ally puts on a clown mask to signify her union with Kai would be so dramatic and good. Talk about a serious plot twist.

Aside from Kai and Ally's roles in the remainder of Cult, there are tons of theories surrounding other characters, as well, all of which point to how the rest of the chapter might play out. Some have suggested Oz will play a major role in how the season ends, theorizing that Kai is Oz's father (via sperm donation) or that they are brothers and Oz is meant to lead the cult; meanwhile, others have looked deeper into the cult's members, suggesting Ivy and Dr. Vincent might be involved in some way.

Of course, it is still early in the season, and this is American Horror Story we're dealing with, so literally any of these are possible and we can't know what to expect. In any case, one thing is certain: We are in for some seriously dark twists and turns in the coming weeks.
