Sterling Point's Creator Reveals If Annie & Oona Will Date

For what’s supposedly a quiet and peaceful Canadian island, Sterling Point can certainly cause some massive waves. In the teen drama’s first season, the biggest conflict revolved around family secrets, but as Season 2 sails ahead, it’s the romantic waters that feel the choppiest. Showrunner Megan Park has seen all the discourse around the real and imagined relationships in the world she created, and has some thoughts about the most controversial ship of all.

“I've been hearing that everyone wants Annie to be with Oona,” Park tells Elite Daily. When Annie first arrived in Sterling Point, her eventual friend Oona was noticeably flirty with her. Though this romantic dynamic faded after Annie met her half sister Ramona, who confessed her long-held feelings for Oona, Season 1 ended with Ramona and Oona breaking off their relationship as Ramona moved away to New York.

Park recognizes the catastrophic ramifications of Annie deciding to date Oona after the breakup with Ramona, but doesn’t consider this to be an off-limits area for the show to explore. “My gut instinct is, if Annie's going to be with a woman, it’s a scary territory to go to your sister's girlfriend,” Park says. “But I mean, listen, we'll see. There is such a good flirtatious energy between Oona and Annie. So maybe there's something fun to play with. I think it’s definitely worth exploring. Whether they actually act on it, time will tell.”

If Park is going to pull the Annie/Oona trigger, she wants to make sure it creates a thoughtful and productive storyline for the long-lost sisters. She’s especially cautious about falling into the “siblings fighting over a girl” trope popularized by another buzzy Prime Video teen romance.

“You would want to walk away from that situation understanding why that happens, and not just... Isn't The Summer I Turn Pretty just two brothers fighting?” Park says. “We don't want it to turn into that.”
