Sterling Point’s Creator Addresses Those Anne Hathaway Season 2 Rumors
"Shoot for the stars, man!"
Spoiler alert: This post discusses events from the Sterling Point Season 1 finale.
After all the parental drama that blew up in the first season finale of Sterling Point, the stage is set for an important character to surface in Season 2. And fans have already been clamoring about who should play her. Thankfully, showrunner Megan Park has seen all the A-listers fans have been comparing star Ella Rubin’s impeccably charismatic breakout performance as Annie to, and she’s open to some of the casting ideas.
In Season 1’s finale, Annie’s twin brother Connor reaches out to their biological mother, a woman that neither of them have ever met. The cliffhanger sets up her potential entrance in Season 2, and since Rubin has been compared to Anne Hathaway so much online (and the two previously played mother and daughter in 2024’s The Idea of You), the Princess Diaries superstar is a fan-fave choice to play this part. But Park seems to lean toward the other viral stars Rubin’s Annie is drawing comparisons to.
“I mean, we'd be very lucky to have Anne Hathaway,” Park tells Elite Daily. “I do see the Anne Hathaway thing, but to me, she’s so Julia Roberts. I saw the Anne Hathaway thing more when Ella auditioned, because she had super straight hair. But her natural hair, and her teeth and that smile, it’s so Julia. She's sort of the love child of Julia Roberts and Rachel Weisz to me.”
However, the problem with your show’s lead having A-list lookalikes means it may not be easy to land these superstars in the part.
“Maybe we could get Julia. I want to shoot for the stars, man,” Park says. “I've also seen people pitch Emmy Rossum, which is a cool idea. But I don’t know who that person’s going to be yet.”
Park has also seen the fans putting forth Mark Ruffalo as Annie and Connor’s biological dad (largely because the iconic actor is the actual dad of Connor actor Keen Ruffalo), but she’s even less sure about that idea. “That’s probably too on the nose,” Park muses.
Whoever ends up getting cast, Park is excited to explore all the drama they will unleash. “The idea of seeing this biological mother is so interesting,” she says. “Is that a disappointing experience? Is it positive? Where does that lead to? Does Annie find out about it? There's a lot there to unpack.”
