Chris Meloni Is Willing To Come Back To 'Law And Order: SVU'

Elliot Stabler is ready to start investigating some more cases! The "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" favorite might be making his way back to the precinct sometime in the future.

Christopher Meloni departed the long-running police procedural after twelve seasons as lead detective Elliot Stabler back in 2011, but now he's giving fans hope his beloved character will return to the show... although we might have to wait a while.

Meloni told Entertainment Tonight that he's totally open to coming back to the show if the conditions are right.

I have always said I would be open to it. [The] circumstances have to be right, that is all.

He was specifically asked about returning for the show's series finale, which would definitely seem fitting since Elliot Stabler was such a huge part of the series for so long.

Now in its 18th season, "Law & Order: SVU" shows no signs of reaching its series end anytime soon... but hey, you never know.

What fans want most of all, of course, is a reunion between best detective duo ever: Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. Stabler's former partner Benson is still starring in the series, now as a lieutenant.

Despite no longer working together, Meloni and Mariska Hargitay have kept their adorable friendship alive for fans by posting selfies together every so often. It just adds more fuel to the fire of viewers craving a Stabler-Benson reunion on the show.

"Law & Order: SVU" is getting more topical than ever in its current season, which is focusing on storylines ripped straight from the headlines. Recent episodes have mirrored the Netflix docuseries "Making a Murderer," Brock Turner's sexual assault case and Bill O'Rielly's sexual assault allegations.

Without a series finale in sight at the moment, it sounds like fans might have to wait a while before seeing Elliot Stabler back in action again. But I'm willing to bet the wait will be well worth it if it happens!
