'Big Little Lies' Got So Many Golden Globe Nominations & We Can't Wait For Season 2

HBO

The Golden Globe nominations are here, and to no one's surprise: Big Little Lies dominated. The HBO miniseries about the dark, hidden lives of a group of well-off moms in Monterey, California has been the breakout critical darling of 2017. And now, it is capping off its acclaimed year with a slew of Golden Globes nominations. Just how many Golden Globes nominations did Big Little Lies get, and which awards should you expect it to take home? Let's get into it.

It should come as no shock at all that Big Little Lies is one of the most-nominated TV shows at the 2018 Golden Globes. After all, it is packed to the gills with movie star talent, luring established film actors like Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley to the small screen. Not to mention that it's fresh off taking home five Emmys, tied for the most of the year with The Handmaid's Tale. Stars Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, and Alexander Skarsgård all took home acting Emmys (beating out also-nominated co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley), and the show won Outstanding Limited Series to boot. Now, Big Little Lies is heading into the Golden Globes with an impressive six nominations, pretty much owning the Limited Series categories.

Most of the categories featuring Big Little Lies actually pit two of its stars against one another, so unfortunately, there's no way that it could wind up with all six awards. Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are both nominated for Best Actress, and Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern are both up for Best Supporting Actress. Aside from that, Alexander Skarsgård is a frontrunner in the Best Supporting Actor category, and the show overall is up for Best Limited Series.

There's a good chance that Big Little Lies will clean up again at the Golden Globes, but it will have to beat out its fellow nominees first. Its big competitor in the Limited Series category is Feud: Bette and Joan, another female-led drama that will be stiff competition in the Best Actress category. And don't count out Fargo, which has less to put up against BLL in terms of female stars, but also had an impressive showing at the Emmys and is another favorite to take Best Limited Series.

The other show to watch out for is a newcomer: Jessica Biel's psychological thriller The Sinner. The surprise nominations could lead to an upset over BLL in the Best Limited Series and Best Actress categories.
