Are You Basic? Your Dating Profile Basically Reveals The Truth

Look, I'm not here to tear you down. We all have our basic b*tch guilty pleasures that never fail to put a pep in our step. But there is a difference between people that are situationally basic — i.e., dancing to Flo Rida after downing a couple shots of José Cuervo on a Friday night — and basic basic. If you've ever found yourself drinking a caramel macchiato while wearing a cowl neck sweater and wondering — am I basic? The answer could very well be yes.

But the truth is "being basic" doesn't matter, as long as you're happy with who you are and what you like. Embrace yourself. But if you still have doubts about whether or not you fall into the B.B. category, then the info in your dating profile could be rather telling.

Although obviously there's more to a person than what's in their dating profile, yours might contain some pretty major clues. Check to see if your profile includes any of the items below. The only thing we can really do is to be ourselves and keep our arsenal of meme-worthy clapbacks ready for any haters. And if the idea of being basic disturbs you to the point of seeking further guidance, there are resources out their to help you on along the way.

1. Referencing Pumpkin Spice Flavored Anything

You're right, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are seasonal, delectable beverages that takes the chill off a brisk fall day. But if you're taking up precious real estate on your dating profile to make this preference known, then there is a pretty high probability that you're basic. And yes, this does extend to other pumpkin-scented things (such as candles — and if they're Yankee, then I rest my case).

2. Loving To Travel

You love to travel. That's crazy! I'm pretty sure so does everyone else who has the free time, money, and resources to do so. Traveling is not a hobby. I repeat, moving your body from point A to point B via a transportation vehicle is not a hobby.

3. Being A Free Spirit

According to Urban Dictionary a free spirit is "one who is not restrained, as by convention or obligation; a nonconformist," which is great. The only thing is, it would seem that the dating pool is so overly saturated with "non-conformists" that proudly displaying this title on your dating profile is weirdly conformist.

4. Loving To Laugh

I'm not exactly sure what this means — you love feeling pleasant? I think most people can get on board with that. What is the essence of basic-ness if it's not enjoying things that are pleasant? Just like the satisfyingly hollow clunk of a wedge heel.

5. "Good Vibes"

As opposed to bad vibes? I don't mean to sound harsh, but using your dating profile to state the obvious is one of the most frequently reported symptoms on WebBB. If you or someone you know is displaying this type of behavior, it could mean they either are, or run the risk of developing a full-blown case of the B.B. (basic b*tch syndrome).

If any of these sound familiar, don't panic. The good news is that the large majority of guys couldn't care less. They probably have their own collection of neon tank tops from spring break, love a good Red Bull, and secretly jam out to Taylor Swift. So do you.
