Twitter in the hands of Donald Trump tends to make us a little bit nervous.

There's no telling what our commander in chief is going to fire off in 140 characters.

However, he took a subtle route this Memorial Day with a series of tweets that actually seemed sincere. Surprisingly, he didn't insert himself into the equation.

Have a look at what the president said below.

We certainly can't fault these statements; America is free because of the brave, and it's important to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

But, this is Twitter, and there is certainly no shortage of people who are willing to reply to your statements and point out your hypocrisy.

Some brought up Trump's policies that would hurt veterans.

Others were curious why the president hasn't made mention of the victims who lost their lives in Portland...

...or the fallen Navy Seal who lost his life this weekend.

One user made sure Trump didn't forget his past actions.

Another pointed out his hypocrisy.

Overall, what began as a tribute to America's bravest turned into a Twitter battle over policies. Unfortunately, the main message behind today's holiday was lost in a series of argumentative tweets, though yes, there were definitely valid concerns.

This Memorial Day comes in the wake of a very busy weekend for the Trump administration.

The president's top adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner has been accused of allegedly attempting to establish a secret communications channel between Trump's transition team and Moscow in an effort to discuss policy issues.

Meanwhile, Trump has delayed his decision on whether or not he will leave the Paris climate accord, which has caused quite a stir.

Times are definitely tense in DC, and controversy abounds, but for today, let's just remember those brave citizens and try to forget Trump's drama.
