Passé super fads, like Beanie Babies, and modern tragedy, like the death of Cecil the lion, may seem like parallel lines bound never to meet, but Ty Warner is using the former to benefit the latter.
A press release this Monday confirmed Warner, CEO of the company that produced Beanie Babies since their heyday in the 90s, crafted a special edition Beanie Baby in Cecil's likeness.
Warner vowed all profits made off of Beanie Cecil will benefit the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit of the University of Oxford.
The scientists at the WCRU, whose study of Cecil was cut short thanks to the hunters who killed him, will be able to use the funds to continue their observation and protection of Africa's wildlife.
The generous Ty Inc. CEO shared his hopes that, come September, when the new Beanie Baby is available to purchase, the effort will provide a positive impact on multiple levels.
