Best (And Worst!) Foods For Your Summertime Skin

Stocksy

You are what you eat. We’ve all heard it before. The foods you consume impact everything from your weight to your immune system to your sleep quality. Diet is also related the skin health, which is useful information for the summer when you have the chance to show off some radiant skin! Understanding how your eating habits manifest themselves in your skin can help you improve your skin from the inside out.

The Good

Foods that are good for vibrant skin contain similar ingredients to those that promote over all good health. Antioxidants, whole wheat, Vitamins A and E are particularly good for the skin. You should also seek out omega fatty acids and good fats, like monounsaturated fats.

These all help your skin cells retain moisture and firmness, leaving it looking radiant and youthful. Great-for-the-skin foods include salmon, almonds, nonfat dairy products like yogurt, and fruits and vegetables like blueberries and spinach. Staying hydrated also keeps your skin glowing, so always remember to drink a lot of water!

The Bad

Foods that harm skin health are those that dehydrate skin cells, damage collagen and aggravate breakouts. Fatty, high sugar, high sodium foods will lead to wrinkles and premature aging while high glycemic foods – or empty carbs – are related to acne. You’ll want to avoid consuming salt, candy, fatty dairy products and sugars. Drinking alcohol also severely dehydrates skin cells.

The Beautiful

As you strive for optimum skin health, remember that the main goals are to keep your skin hydrated and resilient. Cutting out junk food and upping your dose of vitamins will do wonders. Getting (and keeping) that youthful glow can be as easy as a few simple tweaks in your diet!
