This Kid Had The Perfect Answer For How To Survive On A Deserted Island
If my teacher asked me if I'd rather be stuck on a desert island all alone or with one person I hated, I'd say I'd want to be with the person I hated because each of God's creatures is beautiful, and I'd, in the end, learn to love the person whom I once despised.
And I'd be disgustingly wrong because the correct answer is this:
This kid's teacher was trying to teach him/her an important lesson about loneliness or holding grudges, or something (honestly, I have no idea -- it's a very weird question). But, in the end, the teacher was the one to learn about pragmatism, survival cannibalism and the true meaning of the expression,
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
When the child was asked why he or she wrote this answer, I can only assume the student explained the human body is basically like a sentient refrigerator, filled with pounds of food rations that self-disinfect if the body is kept alive -- and also that vengeance is dank.
Now, in the spirit of this warrior-king-in-training, I have transcribed 10 quotes from Machiavelli that he or she would probably be very into one day. Please enjoy, and feel free to take notes.
1. It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both. 2. If an injury has to be done to a man, it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared. 3. There is no avoiding war; it can only be postponed to the advantage of others. 4. Politics have no relation to morals. 5. The fact is that a man who wants to act virtuously in every way necessarily comes to grief among so many who are not virtuous. 6. Hence, it comes about that all armed Prophets have been victorious, and all unarmed Prophets have been destroyed. 7. The promise given was a necessity of the past: The word 'broken' is a necessity of the present. 8. War should be the only study of a prince. He should consider peace only as a breathing time, which gives him leisure to contrive, and furnishes as ability to execute, military plans. 9. It is necessary for him who lays out a state and arranges laws for it to presuppose that all men are evil and that they are always going to act according to the wickedness of their spirits whenever they have free scope. 10. Before all else, be armed.
