Um, she's busy.

Zendaya just won her first Golden Globe Award, but the Euphoria star wasn’t at the awards show on Jan. 10, 2023 to make an acceptance speech. Naturally, fans were wondering why she wasn’t there.

The star, who received her first Golden Globe nomination and win for her role as Rue Bennett in Season 2 of Euphoria, didn’t attend the show to accept her award due to other work commitments.

“Zendaya couldn't be with us tonight, so we are going to accept this award on her behalf,” said Jay Ellis, who presented the Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Drama award along with Glen Powell. “She's busy, she's working y'all. It's a good thing.”

So, what’s she busy working on? Zendaya was recently working on Dune: Part Two, but production on the film has already wrapped. She also attended a Euphoria For Your Consideration event with her castmates in Los Angeles on Dec. 18. So, it’s possible that Zendaya has started work on a new mystery project since then, which kept her from the Golden Globes.

Even though Zendaya didn’t make it to the show, she posted a thank you speech on Instagram along with a photo from the set of Euphoria. She wrote:

I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to be there tonight, but I just wanted to say thank you to @goldenglobes for this incredible honor. To my fellow nominees, it is a privilege to be named beside you, I admire you all deeply. Thank you to my Euphoria family, without you, none of this is possible. Lastly, thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has allowed Rue into theirs. I think everyone knows how much she means to me, but the fact that she can mean something to someone else is a gift. I’m honestly at a loss for words as I type this, all I can say is thank you thank you thank you. Goodnight♥️

The last time Zendaya attended the Golden Globes was in 2016. After that, she skipped the 2019 show when she was snubbed for her work in Euphoria’s first season, and the 2021 show when she was snubbed for her role in the movie Malcolm & Marie. But after the 2023 show, Zendaya can count a Golden Globe among her growing list of accolades, which includes two Emmy Awards for Euphoria.
