Emily in Paris may be in need of a title change. At the end of Season 4, Emily made an impulsive move to Rome to pursue her new romance with Marcello. And it sounds like that location change will last a while, as Netflix teased in its Season 5 renewal.

Just a few days after the second part of Season 4 aired, Netflix picked up Emily in Paris for another season. “There's no place like Rome. Emily in Paris is coming back for SEASON 5,” the streamer posted, along with photos of Lily Collins holding up an espresso cup with the number 5 printed on the bottom.

The announcement confirmed that the upcoming season is taking place in Rome, a setting change that was hinted at in Season 4’s cliffhanger ending. In the finale episode, Emily’s boss Sylvie approved her transfer to Italy to focus on managing Marcello’s family business. But of course, the move was more than just work-related, as Emily finally started to get serious about a romance with Marcello after noticing Gabriel growing close with her conniving mentee Genevieve. However, Emily didn’t realize Gabriel isn’t as into Genevieve as she initially thought, and when Mindy told the chef that Emily had fled to Italy, his immediate response was to ask where exactly she was.

Clearly, Gabriel is planning to chase after his ex in this upcoming season — so it looks like Emily in Paris fans are in for yet another love triangle, but with an Italian twist.

The Trailer Focused On Emily & Marcello

Netflix

On Oct. 22, Netflix dropped the official teaser trailer for Season 5, which was set in Rome and focused almost entirely on Emily and Marcello’s romance. Plus, there were plenty of luxurious parties and boat rides, tokens of Emily’s glamorous career in PR.

Other characters like Mindy, Sylvie, Luc, and Julian were also featured in the clip, having seemingly joined Emily in Italy. However, other key players like Gabriel and Alfie were notably missing from the trailer. The teaser ended with Julian nodding to the missing characters, asking, “If we are all here, who’s in Paris?”

It Will Be Available To Stream In December

Season 5 will be coming to Netflix on Dec. 18 — just in time for any holiday break TV marathons.

The Show Isn’t Totally Abandoning France

Netflix

Despite how Season 5 has been teased, Variety confirmed on Nov. 20, 2024 that the new season will still be predominantly shot in France, with only partial filming in Rome.

Gabriel Will Be Back, Despite Those Rumors

Netflix

Shortly after Season 4 aired, Lucas Bravo openly slammed how Emily in Paris was handling his character Gabriel in multiple interviews, calling Gabriel and Emily’s romance “archaic” and admitting he didn’t feel any freedom while working on the series. The comments seemed to suggest Bravo may be departing from the series. However, Variety confirmed Bravo will return as Gabriel for Season 5.

Alfie Will Also Be Back, & In A Lot More Episodes

Netflix

Alfie’s future was also unclear at the end of Season 4. He had officially ended things with Emily and moved on with a new girlfriend, even proving he was completely over his ex by encouraging Gabriel to find her in Rome. He also only appeared in a few episodes, with Lucien Laviscount’s role reduced to a recurring cast member from previously being a series regular. The suggestion seemed to be that Alfie’s story had come to an end now that Emily’s out of his life.

Despite all that, Alfie’s making a big comeback next season. Deadline confirmed Laviscount is being upped to a series regular next season.

Camille May Be Saying “Au Revoir”

Netflix

While Emily’s lovers are all coming back, another main character is seemingly bidding adieu to the series. When Netflix confirmed Season 5’s May production date, Camille Razat’s name was noticeably left off the list of returning actors. The omission suggests that her character of Camille may not be returning, despite being a main role since the first season.

While it is surprising to lose such a central character, Camille’s Season 4 ending did point to a potential exit. After revealing to Gabriel that she faked her pregnancy to try to hold on to their relationship, they both agreed to finally end things for good, and Camille decided to leave her apartment (and Paris altogether) to find what’s next.
