Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds Remember Their First Date Very Differently

Blake Lively recalls her first date with Ryan Reynolds a little differently than he does.

Back in February, Ryan Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly radio all about his first date with his wife — even though they were both dating other people at the time. He said,

We went on a double date with — she was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl, and that was the most awkward date from their perspective probably because we were just like fireworks coming across the [table.]

In other words, their first date was lifted straight from a romantic comedy. And, in typical rom-com fashion, they weren't exactly on the same page about that first meeting.

On Thursday, Blake went on Entertainment Weekly radio with Jess Cagle, and he asked her about that first date Ryan described.

Blake said,

Went well for him, there were no fireworks for me. [Laughs.] No. We were such good friends for so long and we both got to know each other as friends. It didn't click for a good year and a half. Like, 'Oh hey, wait. Hold on. We could date.'

UGH! NO! STOP! A close friendship with the slow realization that something more was building?  I couldn't write it any better myself.

Even though Ryan felt the sparks right away and Blake took a little more time, Blake attributes that slow build to why her relationship works so well. She said,

That's what I appreciate about our relationship is that he's my friend first and foremost. [...] That's the secret to my happiness.

OK. WE GET IT, YOUR LOVE IS PERFECT!
