Theory: Ryan Reynolds is the greatest method actor of our time. Evidence: His entire life is a romantic comedy.
Seriously, you guys, have you heard the story of how he and Blake Lively met? Apparently, the sparks first started flying back around 2011 when they were on a double date -- with other people. I can't make this sh*t up any better than Nora Ephron could.
Ryan told the story himself in a radio interview with Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday. He said,
I remember it was funny because for about a year after 'Green Lantern' had come and gone and all that stuff, we were both single. We went on a double date with -- she was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl, and that was the most awkward date from their perspective probably because we were just like fireworks coming across the [table]... Yeah, it was like this first weird [date] -- but we were buddies for a long time. I think it's the best way to have a relationship -- to start as friends.
Friends first? Flirty banter? Y'all, I'm telling you, Ryan and Blake are COMMITTED to becoming the first IRL romantic comedy couple. Now, that's dedication to the craft. Move over, Jared Leto.
If you need further proof, how 'bout the fact Ryan serenaded his wife with Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" while she BIRTHED THEIR CHILD? Watch him tell the story below.
And then he has some perfect things to say about being a new father because, of course, he is both funny AND an amazing dad. IT'S A ROM-COM, PEOPLE.
Here's a pitch for TV producers: a reality show just following Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively around to capture their perfect, adorable life. I would watch that.
