We all spend a lot of time on our phones. On average, Americans check their social media a shocking 17 times a day. We spend about a quarter of our waking hours on our phones. Wouldn't it be great if all that time spent on our phones helped us get fit?

The health and fitness app market is exploding right now. There are over 8,000 health and fitness apps in iOS and Google Play Store, so there's no shortage of help to become a healthier you. Hear that? No more excuses.

We've collected some of the best fitness apps of 2016 so you don't have to.

1. Zombies, Run!

There is nothing like a zombie apocalypse to get your blood pumping. At the start of your workout, you get a mission. You start out jogging to music and then ZOMBIES appear and start chasing you. You save other survivors and collect necessities for your base camp. 200 missions later, you'll be fit and addicted to running... and trained to do what you need to do when a zombie apocalypse occurs. Which is obviously an important life skill.

2. Waterlogged

We all know that drinking water is the secret to beautiful skin and a healthy body but sometimes it's hard to remember to get your sips in. Feel guilty no more! This app will remind you to drink water throughout the day and even let you record the ounce size of your favorite water bottles.

3. iSleep Easy

Sleepless nights do nothing to promote a healthier, happier life. You need those zzz's for your memory, attention, and to help your body rejuvenate. iSleep Easy offers guided meditations to help you fall asleep fast, and stay asleep. Forget that warm glass of milk, I think this app is way better.

4. Fitnet

Many people say that they are too busy to be the best, healthiest version of themselves. Well, got five minutes? This app will give you an efficient and effective workout in five to seven minutes. It also gives you a new reason to take a selfie. What's not to like about that? The camera on your phone can be used to record your movement and give you feedback on your form.

5. Motion Traxx

One thing that makes me go from not feelin' to feelin' a workout is my playlist. Does your playlist lack spirit? This Motion Traxx app has your back. Just turn up the volume and leave the rest to them. The app uses your motion to determine what songs match your work out. All you have to do is sweat, baby.
