Boy, has Thierry Mugler been in the news quite a bit lately. The Mugler fashion house has been under much speculation after former creative director Nicola Formichetti had a very publicized exit earlier this month.

Since then, the fashion house has been contemplating who should take Formichetti’s place. Well, who better than the brand’s namesake himself? Thierry Mugler is returning.

Some of you may be confused. Shouldn’t the creator of a line always be involved, especially if he’s still alive? Mugler has certainly had an interesting career. He had been multitasking as artistic director of Thierry Mugler Parfums since 1992, along with being associated with the fashion side of his business.

In 2003, Mugler stepped down from the fashion side and kept his involvement solely with the Parfum area of his business. Now, Mugler is stepping down from that role and is being brought on as creative advisor to the brand.

“Over the last three years, Mugler Fashion has made a visible and successful comeback, while Mugler fragrances have enjoyed a 50 percent growth in sales with both Angel and Alien now amongst the top feminine fragrances worldwide,” Joel Palix, Mugler General Director said in a statement. “It is time to unite both activities under one single creative management and turn Mugler into a global and fully integrated luxury brand with a synergetic approach across fashion, accessories and fragrances.”

It’s clear that the perfume aspect of the business has been the most lucrative side of Mugler for some time now. I’m a devout Alien perfume wearer, and not a day goes by where I don’t get asked about my perfume.

Mugler certainly did an excellent job with his scents, and hopefully he will be able to revive the fashion side of his business in the same way he had done with the beauty side.
