The 90’s Keeps On Coming Back For More

I’m a 90’s kid through and through. There’s nothing I miss more than my childhood, and all of it’s brightly colored and glittery goodness. The things I would do for an inflatable chair from Limited Too to still be apart of my room.

Society, apparently, feels the same way as I do. It seems that now, more than ever, Generation Y is becoming re-obsessed with our childhood’s decade. Every website you visit features homage’s to the 90’s: slideshows, lists, flashback videos and pictures, you name it, and the Internet has it all on display for your viewing pleasure.

The 90’s obsession is becoming so prevalent that it seems as if old trends are starting to make their way back into the spotlight. We’ve already experienced the neon trend, and crop tops may be more popular now than they were twenty years ago (although I’m pretty sure you’re no longer allowed to wear them to school..).

So what’s the next 90’s trend that’s coming back strong? Platform sneakers. You know, those sneakers made famous by the Spice Girls? They’re back.

Of course, I don’t think the world is ready for the return of Baby Spice’s metallic silver platforms. The newest versions are topping out a modest inch to inch and a half. Don’t believe me?

Companies such as Opening Ceremony, Converse, Vans, Chanel and Celine have issued their own iterations of the sneaker. Chanel also has re-popularized a range of platform sandals.

What do you think? Will this trend fair well against Isabel Marant’s sneaker wedges? Is the world ready for this type of flashback? I’m not sure if anything can top my purple suede Sketchers platform sneakers, no matter how hard they tried…
