Supermodel Doutzen Kroes knows family comes before modeling.
In the March issue of Vogue Netherlands, the 30-year-old Dutch native poses with husband Sunnery James, and their children, 4-year-old Phyllon and 6-month-old Myllena.
The Victoria's Secret Angel is making waves with the magazine's images, one of which features her nursing Myllena in bed.
The photo is, undoubtedly, an attempt to normalize the act. Kroes follows in the footsteps of fellow model Gisele Bündchen and actress Olivia Wilde, who also shared similar images.
However, Kroes' shoot also shows a level of privilege most mothers don't have. She can feed her child at any point during the day, even during a Vogue photo shoot, and rely on a team of experts to take care of the rest.
It's not a portrayal of most women's lives, just her own.
But, by sharing intimate images like these, Kroes and other celebrities are helping to change the way the public sees the act of nursing.
Instead of something disgusting or covert, it's increasingly perceived as a beautiful act of nurturing. A long term trickle-down effect may see breastfeeding become the norm for the average mother.
