GOP Senate Candidate Says Women Care More About Job Flexibility Than Equal Pay (Video)

One GOP candidate — the presumed Republican nominee for the Senate in Michigan — has an interesting take on what women want in regards to workplace wages.

At a 2010 speech at a Senior Women's Club event in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land said that professional females naturally prioritize job flexibility over equal pay to their male counterparts.

"Well we all like to be paid more and that's great, but the reality is that women have a different lifestyle. They have kids, they have to take them to get dentist appointments, doctors appointments all those kinds of things and they're more interested in flexibility in a job than pay."

So... all women who do the same work as men would rather they get to duck out early to tend to their kids, as opposed to receiving rightful compensation for the duties and tasks they're performing? Oh, really?

Land's comments are coming under new scrutiny in her current race, having been highlighted by a recent American Bridge 21st Century PAC ad.

This is definitely not the right time to be taking a weak stance or seeming unwilling to close the wage gap, but hopefully Land will learn this lesson at the ballot box.
