Girl Calls Out Her Sexist School Dress Code In Awesome Yearbook Quote

by Gillian Fuller

Chloë Cross might just be the coolest teenager around.

In her high school yearbook, the graduating senior took the opportunity to call out her school's ridiculous dress code, thus cementing her place in the Badass Babes Hall Of Fame for all of eternity.

In response to San Mateo High School's ban on crop tops, Cross wrote,

I would just like to apologize to those who were unable to graduate with the class of 2015 because they were too distracted by my midriff and consequently failed all of their classes! Xoxo.

It's hilarious on so many levels, mostly because she effectively gives a big “f*ck you” to everyone who stands by the sexist dress code without actually being crass or crude.

It takes a special kind of smart to craft such a subtle insult.

Cross posted a picture of the printed yearbook quote on her Instagram, and it quickly got lots of love. Actress Amandla Stenberg even reblogged it to viral fame.

Yahoo! News reached out to Cross for a comment on the sassy signoff.

The teen explained,

I got the idea for the quote from the bizarre rationalization that administrators use when punishing girls for violating dress code, which is that they are being 'distracting' and making it 'hard for others to learn.' I wanted to emphasize how stupid it sounds to blame the way that people, especially girls, dress for the academic failure of their peers. Nobody from my class would be going to college if bodies were as distracting as the administration makes them out to be.

Seriously, have you ever met a teenager so insightful? I sure haven't.

I, personally, would like to extend a huge "thank you" and virtual high-five to Cross. She's sure to accomplish tons of awesome sh*t in her life (hopefully, doing it with sass the whole way through).
