Louis Vuitton Raising Prices

by Ally Batista

Louis Vuitton is one of the world’s most well known luxury brands. Not only is their logo ubiquitous, but their prices are as well. We all know how much a standard Louis Vuitton bag is going to cost, and whether we can afford it or not.

If you’re in the realm of consumers who cannot so easily purchase a Louis Vuitton, your quest to purchase such a bag is about to get a bit more difficult. According to a broker at HSBC, the French fashion house has increased prices on their non-leather handbags by ten percent in Europe, ten percent or more in the U.S. and U.K. and five to ten perfect in Asia.

Luckily, this excludes all leather products, but according to analysts’ estimates, canvas items make up about two thirds of the brand’s total accessories sales, and yield higher gross margins than do leather goods.

How can this help the company? Will this fuel the counterfeit market even further?
