Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Things That Hurt More Than A Mammogram (Video)

by Elite Daily Staff

We love boobs of all shapes and sizes here at Elite Daily Women. And since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, what better time to show them a little affection than now? That means being proactive about your health and making sure you schedule your next mammogram.

The statistics are quite shocking. According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime.

While this may seem like a grave number, Cliff Hudis, M.D. and Chief of Breast Cancer Medicine Service Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center says, "Breast cancer is a curable and survivable disease. Screening, detection and good treatment are all critically important.” So, it's important to learn the facts about breast cancer, to find out about the different types of detection, and to talk to your doctor about your breasts and screenings.

One of the most effective ways to detect breast cancer early is with a mammogram, but less than 73 percent of women get the recommended breast cancer screening tests, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many women who are unfamiliar with the process are afraid it will be scary or painful.

Well, we're here to tell you that it's not. In fact, most of the beauty procedures we endure like waxing and piercing hurt way, way more! Check out this awesome video from ABC News on what a mammogram is really like, and how we opt for beauty treatments that are much more brutal than a potentially life-saving screening.
