Marathon Runner Overcomes Injury And Crawls Across The Finish Line (Video)

Hyvon Ngetich's body may have given up, but she was determined not to.

According to a report from CBS affiliate KEYE TV in Austin, the Kenyan runner was leading the women participating in Sunday's Austin Marathon, but after 23 miles, her body began to lock up due to exhaustion.

Determined to finish the race, Ngetich crawled to the finish line, despite workers at the marathon walking alongside her and offering her a wheelchair.

And while she had to pause for a moment to gather her strength, Ngetich completed her crawl all the way to end, accomplishing what had to have been the most heroic sporting moment of the weekend and finishing third place in the process.

Afterward, the marathon's race director, John Conley, told Ngetich,

You ran the bravest race and crawled the bravest crawl I have ever seen in my life. You have earned much honor, and I am going to adjust your prize money, so you get the same prize money you would have gotten if you were second.

Check out the video above for Ngetich's awe-inspiring moment.
