Update: Terminally Ill 'Star Wars' Fan Gets To Screen Film In His Own Home

by Stacey Leasca

On Tuesday, we told you about Daniel Fleetwood of Spring, Texas.

Fleetwood suffers from a rare connective tissue cancer called spindle cell sarcoma. He is also, quite possibly, the biggest "Star Wars" fan on the planet.

Fleetwood is a fighter. According to his wife, Ashley, he has been fighting every day to spend just a little more time with his family and, hopefully, make it to the December 18 "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" premiere.

But, sadly, recent scans show Fleetwood's lungs are almost completely covered in tumors.

Luckily, the force is strong on social media, and Twitter users came out by the thousands to support Fleetwood on his mission to see the new film before he dies.

Using the hashtag, #ForceForDaniel, Twitter users asked Disney to screen the film for the mega-fan in his home hospice. Even the film's stars got in on the action, tweeting their support.

Well, we can happily update you today with the news that Disney showed up at Fleetwood's home for a personal screening of the film (under heavy security, of course).

Ashley shared the joyous news in a Facebook post, saying,

To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers: Daniels final dream was just granted!!! Today the wonderful Disney and Lucasfilms made his final dream come true, in the amazing typical Disney way, they really do make dreams come true! Daniel just finished watching an unedited version of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!!! We would like to thank the awesomely talented JJ Abrams for calling us yesterday to tell us Danjel was getting his wish granted! We also would like to thank Lynne, Ben and Anahuac for coming to our home and screening the movie for Daniel. Lastly I want to thank ALL the amazing people who helped make this happen, thank you beyond words!!! May the force be with you all smile emoticon ‪#‎forcefordaniel‬ !!!!

Good job, people of the Internet, for helping this one happen.
