Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte Isn't On The Permanent Menu And We're Depressed

Starbucks

Just in case you somehow missed the news, Sept. 5 marks the beginning of Pumpkin Spice Latte season (which is why your coffee run was most likely longer than usual this morning). Starbucks customers far and wide rejoiced at the arrival of the fall favorite, even though it still feels like summer in most parts of the country. The return of the espresso and milk blend offers autumn in a cup thanks to the cinnamon, nutmeg, whipped cream, and of course, pumpkin. However, don't expect to indulge in this treat year-round. Much like the season itself, the drink is a once-a-year phenomenon — Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte isn't on the permanent menu.

Before you take off your beanie and flannel while wallowing in this depressing news, there is plenty to enjoy, so embrace what's available now. To accompany your PSL, Starbucks is bringing back its pumpkin scone and caramelized apple loaf cake, so if you're feeling a bit hungry before your 9 a.m. meeting, you'll definitely need to pick up one of those bad boys. You can definitely channel autumn with these treats, so don't sulk over the fact that the Pumpkin Spice Latte isn't a permanent item. Someone will probably get crafty and find a Starbucks hack that'll have baristas serving PSLs all year long — just wait.

At $4.55 per order (at least), you'll have to shell out over $20 per week for a PSL each morning, so perhaps it's a good thing that this isn't something that'll be featured year-long. You would probably need to find a side hustle to support your PSL addiction. Coffee doesn't come cheap nowadays, folks.

However, if you're looking for a pumpkin break, try your hand at these fall pancake recipes to make your autumn brunches extra cozy. Or if you've had enough of the seasonal treatments, feel free to go the boozy dessert route with the new recipe for Moscato cupcakes.  No matter what you choose, you're in for a treat.
