The Amount A Blogger Gets Paid For Just One Instagram Will Make You Cry

by Anna Menta

Hey, you. How are those student loans going? Only one more decade of 40 hours of mind-numbing labor per week and you'll be rocking and rolling! Sweet!!!

That, or you could just be a hot person with a blog. According to Women's Wear Daily, today's most popular bloggers -- aka fashion and modeling bloggers -- are making $1 million to $3 million a year. And I thought I was doing OK!

The majority of this income comes to the bloggers not through traffic to their websites, but through their Instagram accounts. Brands buy Instagram posts off the model bloggers for anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000.

This is five times the standard rate a year and a half ago, according to WWD.

If you're like me, in addition to desiring to overthrow the ruling class, you're wondering... how?

Basically, this is good old-fashioned product placement, just like you see on your favorite TV shows.

But instead of Phoebe Buffay ranting about Pottery Barn in "Friends," it's a filtered photo of a gorgeous woman in a cute dress, with a caption saying the clothing came from ShopStyle.

And this strategy works, too. Bloggers reportedly drove over $8 million in sales for ShopStyle in December alone.

Hey, I'm pretty sure there was a Diet Coke can in my Instagram of my roommate's cat last week. Coca-Cola, where my check at?
