Ready To Binge 'Stranger Things' Season 2? Here's Everything You Need To Know
Stranger Things is about to become our new favorite Halloween tradition, with Season 2 arriving on the last Friday of the month. The surprise Netflix hit from last year has become one of the anticipated follow ups, with fans alternatively overjoyed to be returning to Hawkins, Indiana and worried about the show hitting the dreaded sophomore slump. For those counting the hours down, how much longer do we have to wait? What time does Stranger Things hit Netflix?
When Does Stranger Things Season 2 Arrive
We already know that the release date for the series is Friday, Oct. 27, 2017. As for what time, like all Netflix shows, all episodes will arrive at once, nine in total for this season, at 12:01 a.m. PT.
For those that find time zones extra difficult, that's 3:01 a.m. ET. For our friends in the UK, that's 8:01 a.m. Friday morning. For those on the other side of the globe in Sydney, that's 6:01 p.m. and in New Zealand 8:01 p.m. Friday evening.
So for those in the US who plan to take Friday off, you can either go to bed extra early and then get up and start binging, or stay up all night and launch into the entire thing slightly sleep deprived.
What's The Official Synopsis For This Season?
The synopsis for the new series is as follows:
It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the demagorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.
What Footage Have We See So Far?
Stranger Things Season 2 had released three official trailers, plus two sneak peeks, one hyping the Friday the 13th trailer and the other at London Comic Con.
The first trailer came all the way back in February, as a short during the Superbowl.
The second trailer is the "Thriller" trailer from San Diego Comic Con last summer.
Here's the Friday the 13th teaser:
Here's the full second trailer (which funnily enough doesn't include half of what was in the teaser above.)
And then the teaser scene from the other day at London Comic Con:
What Are The Titles Of The Episodes?
There are nine episodes in total for this season of Stranger Things. Most run in the 45-50 minute range with one or two nearly reaching (or hitting) the full hour mark. That means it will take about seven and half hours (give or take a few minutes) to watch the whole thing.
Here are the titles:
- Chapter One: "Madmax"
- Chapter Two: "Trick or Treat, Freak"
- Chapter Three: "The Pollywog"
- Chapter Four: "Will the Wise"
- Chapter Five: "Dig Dug"
- Chapter Six: "The Spy"
- Chapter Seven: "TBA"
- Chapter Eight: "TBA"
- Chapter Nine: "TBA"
Originally the titles for Episodes 2-5 were announced as "The Boy Who Came Back To Life", "The Pumpkin Patch", "The Palace", and "The Storm", while "The Pollywog" was originally the title for Episode 6.
Episode 7-9, which haven't had their finalized titles revealed were originally announced to be "The Secret Cabin", "The Brain" and "The Lost Brother." We'll have to see if any of these discarded titles turn up in the final three episodes.
Is There Anything Special About Watching Stranger Things?
Actually yes. The Duffer brothers are adamant that people know they filmed the series to be watched in a certain way, to look like a 1980s TV show, basically. No, it's not shot in 4:3, nor do you need a 1980s TV to see it properly, they're not that insane. But they do ask that if you're the type that hip to this sort of thing that you turn off any settings on your HDTV, 3D TV or 4K TV that says "motion," as in "TruMotion" or "Smooth Motion.”
Stranger Things Season 2 arrives in just over a week, on Friday Oct. 27, 2017.
