Fans Are Praying Chris Pine Returns For 'Justice League,' But Will He?

WARNER BROS.

Batman. Superman. Wonder Woman. Aquaman. The Flash. Steve Trevor? Hey, a girl can dream. Chris Pine brought his A-game to Wonder Woman as the righteous and amiable Steven Trevor, captain of the air service and Diana Prince's heart. The likable charmer was a fitting ally and love interest for the badass Amazonian superhero played masterfully by Gal Gadot, and naturally many fans were left wondering if we would ever see him again in one way or another. Is Chris Pine in Justice League? There are hints that he'll make a return to the big screen someday, but given how things went down in Wonder Woman, it's somewhat unlikely.

If you have not seen Wonder Woman, you probably shouldn't read ahead because SPOILERS. But who are we kidding? Everyone and their cat saw the DC summer success story — it shattered expectations and broke box office records. But back to Steve Trevor. While the wonderful Diana Prince did most of the heavy lifting in the saving the world department, Chris Pine's character did kill himself in order to propel Diana to victory in her epic final battle. Sigh. Steve's selfless sacrificial act only adds to his already packed resume of good traits and of course, he's forever linked to Diana in the hearts and minds of all the shippers out there. Is there a chance for a reunion?

Justice League, which hits theaters Nov. 20, follows the assorted kickass superheroes of the DCEU as they team up to defend humanity. You get the picture. It seems the already crowded cast of characters leaves little room for mere mortal Steve Trevor to make an appearance. But that doesn't mean we've seen the last of him. Robin Wright aka the deceased General Antiope, aunt and mentor to Diana, is set to be featured in Justice League. Anything's possible, right?

There have been rumblings and teases that fan favorite Steve could be resurrected for a future franchise installment. Wonder Woman was a massive hit and we can expect its sequel as soon as (woohoo!) November of 2019 and it apparently starts shooting next summer. Chris Pine does have a multi-picture deal with Warner Bros., emphasis on the word multi. Rumors have been floating around that Chris Pine will indeed be a part of the next Wonder Woman movie, but how?!

"All I can say is it was a dilemma," director Patty Jenkins revealed to Fandango about Steve's complicated fate. "It's something I hope we don't talk about in the public [because] I want people to see, but it's very hard to know which characters will be in the next movie because of the time period, so it's a big question."

So you're saying there's a chance? This is a comic book-based universe we're talking about, so maybe he'll get the clone treatment so he can have more screen time going forward. Or maybe we can just keep our fingers crossed for a flashback?

That tricky time period Jenkins is referring to might be the totally rad 1980s. There have been unconfirmed reports that Diana will be taking her talents to the decade for a Cold War face off in the subsequent sequel.

For all the #TeamSteveTrevor fans out there, you should know that the beloved character had a different destiny in the comic books. Steve took more than one form over the course of the character's history and has multiple complex arcs. Will his big screen counterpart have as long of a shelf life? We're guessing a lot of fans would be pretty pumped to see Chris Pine all up in the DCEU again soon.
