Does Pineapple Make Your Vagina Taste Better? 7 Foods That May Change What You Taste Like Down There

First of all, let it be said, whatever your vagina tastes and smells like, is great. Think of your taste down there like a fingerprint or a little piece of your DNA: It's something totally unique to you, which is pretty awesome in and of itself when you think about it. But it's definitely interesting to think about the fact that there are certain types of foods and beverages that can potentially alter the chemistry and pH level of your lady part juices. For example, does pineapple make your vagina taste better? Well, there's not exactly a simple answer. To some extent, the effect of what you consume on your lady parts does vary from person to person, and a lot of the "evidence" about this stuff is more on the anecdotal side of the spectrum. But if you're interested in experimenting and seeing how you can change what your vagina tastes like, there's no harm in giving it a shot — or, you know, a taste.

Again, experimenting or being interested in changing your taste and smell definitely does not have to be something you do in order to please someone else. But if you are doing it with your sexual partner's enjoyment in mind, that's totally cool, too. And it's worth noting that the taste and smell of all bodily fluids can be altered by your eating, drinking, and even smoking habits.

Of course, keep in mind that certain smells might be possible indications of an infection. If you're smelling something super yeasty (think bread dough) or really fishy, be sure to check it out with your health care provider.

But if you're simply down to just eat some tasty food and see how it changes what your vagina tastes or smells like, let's get down to it. Remember, most of these are based more on anecdotes than real science, so take it with a grain of salt.

1Coffee

So, your vagina has a pH balance, and it's naturally acidic, which is part of what makes it possible for this magical organ to be self-cleaning — yay, vaginas!

Basically, when you eat something that alters your vagina's pH level, like acidic coffee, it can also change what you taste and smell like down there. Sexologist Jessica O’Reilly, Ph.D. told Glamour that, according to her clients, "smoking, caffeine, and preservatives can result in a more bitter taste" in their vaginas.

2Citrus Fruits

Giphy

Apparently that pineapple myth isn't actually a myth! Fruits — specifically citrus fruits — can make your vagina taste even sweeter. There's a whole lot of anecdotal evidence for this one. Even the Kardashians tried it out a few years ago on TV.

Similar to coffee, citrus fruits can alter your pH levels down there because of the high levels of acidity. Paired with all those natural sugars, somebody's mouth may just be in for a super sweet treat.

3Celery

Giphy

Celery can apparently neutralize odors downtown. This bad boy is sky-high in vitamin C and water, so it can help reduce reduce any bitter tastes you may have.

And, of course, just straight-up keeping your body hydrated in general is another surefire way to keep things fresh all-around.

4Asparagus

If you've ever eaten asparagus, then you definitely know what asparagus pee smells like. When our bodies digest this delicious vegetable, a chemical called asparagusic acid is broken down into sulfur-containing compounds (read: sulfur means smelly).

Lots of foods that contain or break down into sulfur (garlic is another one) can give scent to your secretions, including the sweat of your vagina.

5Yogurt

Because of the natural probiotics, yogurt can have a really positive effect on the vag. Probiotics are live organisms ("good" bacteria) that essentially fight and destroy "bad" bacteria, thus fending off the possibility of developing yeast infections and the yucky odors that come with them.

Mary Rosser, M.D., Ph.D., an OBGYN at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, told Women's Health,

Yogurt with live and active cultures are probiotics and may be involved in helping the vagina maintain a healthy acidic pH and balance.

If you're like me and dairy is not so friendly to your tummy, try coconut yogurt, or even some probiotics that you can get at your local health food store.

6Meat

Giphy

Dr. Sari Locker, a sex educator at Columbia University and author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amazing Sex, told Redbook that eating meat might make your vagina super salty, if you and/or your partner are into that.

7Spices

Spices are also believed to alter the taste of your vagina, and according to this SELF writer's boyfriend, curry is a spice that can make you taste "a little funkier" — not bad, just different, and a little stronger.

But hey, the best way to really find out what does or doesn't work for you is simply to give it a shot! So eat up and enjoy, my friend.
