Sierra Sharry was eight months pregnant when her partner, Lane Smith, passed away after a tragic boat racing accident.

Sharry was 20 years old when she lost Lane and was completely devastated.

She writes on Facebook,

July 13th 2014 was the absolute worst day of my life, I lost my best friend. The father of my unborn child. And since that day I have felt so empty inside. A part of me will forever be missing. I loved that man more than life itself.

Fast forward six months to Sharry and her son, Taos, posing for family pictures with photographer Kayli Rene.

Sharry wanted a photo for her son that showed both of his parents, so he could understand that his father will always be a part of his life, despite his physical absence.

That's when Sharry asked the photog if she could mess with some old photos on Photoshop to create a spiritually themed visual in which Lane was looking over his girlfriend and his child.

The photographer certainly got creative and ended up making a pretty ghostly, beautiful and unique family portrait for Sierra Sharry and Taos.

The photo has since gone viral across social media platforms, and Kayli says she is swamped with requests from other families for similar photographs to be made for them.

The photographer may have just created a new, unusual outlet for grieving families.
