Drunk Girl Who Passed Out In Snow Might Lose Her Fingers From Frostbite (Graphic)

by Emily Arata

Running away from your friends while blackout drunk in the middle of a Canadian winter is pretty much a death sentence -- unless you're Imgur user TheBassistsMuse.

The Australian-born survivor, who nearly lost her hands to frostbite, recently shared the story of the December night she almost froze her limbs off, adding it took her nearly six weeks to heal.

While in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, TheBassistsMuse and her friends went out for the night. Many locals had never met an Australian before, and happily bought her shots.

Soon, however, TheBassistsMuse was blackout drunk. Telling her friends she planned to smoke outside, the woman slipped out of the bar around 2:30 am.

Unfortunately, she left her jacket and mittens inside.

TheBassistsMuse says this is the last picture of her from that night.

She was found at 5:45 am, curled in a ball and attempting to nap (a symptom of hypothermia). Hospital staff informed TheBassistsMuse she might lose her hands.

Soon, they began blistering.

Fingers swelling nastily, TheBassistsMuse describes this as the time she began learning to "open sh*t with [her] elbows"

Even though her fingers grew larger by the day, TheBassistsMuse wasn't allowed to pop them while they healed.

Until one day, her doctor popped the blisters himself. She says puss "went everywhere. EVERYWHERE."

She's now on the path to recovery and hopes her photos might dissuade others from making similarly poor decisions. In June, she'll know for sure whether she can keep all her fingers.
