Secret Service Director Resigns Following Recent White House Security Breach

by John Haltiwanger

On Wednesday afternoon, Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned amid heavy criticism over a White House security breach.

In September, a man named Omar Gonzalez jumped over the White House fence, overpowered one Secret Service officer, and made it pretty far into the building before he was subdued.

He was armed with a knife. Luckily, the President was not in the building at the time.

Initial reports stated he only made it to the front door, but it was later revealed that Gonzalez had traveled much farther than those early reports admitted. He is the first intruder to make it inside of the executive mansion.

In addition to this egregious mishap, another recent report revealed the Secret Service let an ex-con with a gun ride an elevator with President Obama.

Given the embarrassing and troubling circumstances, it is not surprising that Pierson resigned.
