Why Doesn't Spicer Like Scaramucci? His Appointment Led To Spicer's Resignation

Sean Spicer did not like Donald Trump's latest move.

He was so opposed to the president's decision, that Spicer resigned as White House press secretary, becoming the former press secretary on Friday, July 21.

The decision in question is the appointment of Wall Street financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director, a move to which Spicer was vehemently opposed, according to the New York Times.

UPDATE: Scaramucci has officially been confirmed as White House director of communications. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is now the press secretary, they confirmed during Friday's press briefing. Spicer will be staying on for a few more weeks.

EARLIER: The Times also reported that Spicer told the president appointing Scaramucci was a major mistake.

Despite the new hire, Spicer was asked by the president to stay on and work at the White House as Scaramucci's subordinate, but the 45-year-old former Republican National Committee staffer rejected the offer.

Spicer had been fulfilling the duties of communications director since the resignation of the last director, Mike Dubke, in May.

The reason behind Spicer's opposition to Scaramucci's appointment was his lack of experience, CNN's Dana Bash reported.

Because Scaramucci had not had previous experience working in a similar role in Washington, Spicer figured he would still have to perform many of the duties that should be administered by the communications director, even as a subordinate.

Spicer then decided the appointment was the last straw, Bash said.

Spicer's tenure as press secretary began with insistence that President Trump's inauguration drew the largest crowd in history, a point which was not true.

On other occasions, the former press secretary delivered press statements that were eventually contradicted by the president. Spicer's tenure also quickly became comedic material for Saturday Night Live, with actress Melissa McCarthy routinely portraying a caricature of him.

That material will no longer exist, though, thanks to Spicer's swift resignation in response to an inexperienced communications director being hired as his superior.

Elite Daily reached out to the White House for information about the resignation and Spicer's reported dislike of Scaramucci, but did not hear back at publication time.
