Even Conservatives Are Concerned About Donald Trump's Latest Tweetstorm

Donald Trump's latest tweetstorm has even conservatives slamming him, with a number right-wing media figures throwing a wave of criticism at the president.

Fox News' Brit Hume, for example, went at Trump for constantly changing his story in regards to the reasoning behind firing former FBI Director James Comey.

The string of criticisms from conservatives was in response to a set of tweets Trump sent out on Friday morning criticizing the media and essentially asserting that statements from his spokespeople could not be expected to have complete accuracy.

Most notably, though, Trump went on to seemingly threaten Comey by suggesting conversations between the former FBI director and the president had been recorded.

Here's how conservatives responded on Twitter.

CNN political commentator and former Ted Cruz communications staffer Amanda Carpenter expressed her frustration with Republicans who, she says, enabled Trump.

Noah Rothman, editor and columnist for the conservative magazine, Commentary, also lamented right wingers who defend Trump.

Leon Wolf, managing editor for conservative website The Blaze, which was founded by Glenn Beck, noted the "insane" nature of Trump's tweets.

Ben Shapiro, editor-in-chief of conservative website The Daily Wire, shared a similar sentiment.

A number of other notable conservative media figures followed suit, slamming the president for his views on the media and the apparent attempt to intimidate Comey.

To be clear, the president receiving criticism from conservatives is not exactly a novelty. Many conservatives, in fact, rejected the idea of Trump being a "true conservative" in the first place.

In addition, a number of right-wing columnists have warned other conservatives to resist the impulse to defend Trump. Just today, Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt published an editorial criticizing Trump enablers.

Still, Trump's specific remarks on Friday seemed to have crossed a certain line. More than ever, it seems, conservatives let him have it.
