Parisians Offer Safe Shelter Amid Ongoing Attacks Using #PorteOuverte

by Kendall Wood

Following reports of a fatal shooting, dual explosions and hostage situation in the 11th arrondissement in Paris on Friday, Parisians launched a hashtag, #PorteOuverte, or "open door," to offer shelter to those seeking a safe place in the city.

It's important to note that many Twitter users who are employing the hashtag are doing so to join the discussion but are crowding the conversation and making it difficult to identify those in need of help and shelter in Paris.

Below are just a few examples of tweets using the hashtag. You can view more of the conversation here.

As of 3:40 pm PST, at least 100 people are being held hostage, and there have been at least 35 reported fatalities. Follow our blog for more updates here.
