A 24-year-old man has admitted to drunkenly disemboweling his girlfriend after she said her ex husband's name during sex.

Fidel Lopez and his girlfriend Maria Nemeth, 31, were having sex when she momentarily confused him with another man.

Fidel told Police: "She changed my name. She called me the name of the other f*cking guy. And she said it twice and she was wrong and she was confusing me with him. At that point, I get mad. I get really mad."

After flying into a rage, Lopez trashed the apartment before turning on Maria, who at this point was lying unconscious on the bathroom floor.

A police report states:

He inserted a beer bottle, a flat iron for hairstyling, and both fists inside of her... He then inserted his arm up to his elbow and ripped out part of her intestines.

Police arrived at the apartment in Florida after Lopez called 911 to find Maria's mangled body, but they were too late to save her.

Photos taken after the attack show the trashed apartment covered in blood and bodily tissue as well as a bottle of tequila. The glass sliding doors were completely smashed, there was a large hole in the wall, and the bathroom door was ripped off its hinges.

Lopez initially denied murdering his girlfriend. He claimed that during "rough sex" she had asked him to use a beer bottle on her, and then had rushed to the loo to be sick.

During interrogation, Lopez tried to deny that he had hurt Maria: "She's a good girl. She's a perfect girl, man. She's my love."

In police interrogation videos released by CBS4 News, one detective can be heard saying, "Fidel, this was not a case of rough sex."

Lopez finally confessed, but when asked why he was so aggressive, he casually shrugged it off. He just said, "my mind blocks out."

At the end of the interrogation, police told Fidel Lopez that he would be arrested on charges of murder and sexual battery. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty against him.

Despite his attitude in the interrogation, Lopez gradually began to feel the weight of what he had done. In transcripts of calls to family members released to the police, Lopez says that in the days after the death he was haunted by Maria's death and couldn't sleep.

"Each time that I close my eyes, I have that in mind," he said.
