new study out of Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London says hip-hop is the only genre of music to have made a drastic impact on the "musical landscape."

The lead author on the report, Matthias Mauch, says,

We can actually go beyond what music experts tell us, or what we know ourselves about them, by looking directly into the songs, measuring their makeup, and understanding how they have changed.

The research, which used data analysis of chart trends, also suggests The Beatles and The Rolling Stones did not create a new sound. Instead, the two English bands improved on already-existing musical formulas.

While the British Invasion back in the 1960s is widely credited to the shift in music, it turns out it didn't change sh*t!

According to The Guardian,

The music style those bands displayed -- measured by properties such as chord changes and tone -- was already established in the US charts before they arrived.

As for hip-hop music, it's evident the sound is evolving. From Pac and Biggie to Fetty Wap and Young Thug, sh*t done changed!
