Sam Smith Gave An Amazing Billboard Awards Speech Without Using Words (Video)

Even without speaking, Sam Smith kept the entire audience of yesterday's Billboard Music Awards rapt as he accepted his award for Top Male Artist.

The self-admitted romantic and movie nerd took a page from fan-favorite "Love Actually," writing out his "thank you" speech on oversized cards while resting his vocal cords after emergency surgery less than a week ago.

As the audience sat silently, Smith flipped through comedic messages to buds Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. Judging from the grins on their faces, Smith's message was loud and clear.

Smith also took home merits for Top New Artist and Top Radio Songs Artist.
