Focus Is Power; Use It Wisely

by Serge Efap

What exactly is that voice inside your head, do you know? I know some of you are thinking  " It's me," but really, is it you? How can you listen to your own thoughts, when in fact you're not even using your ears to hear them?

Are you generating these thoughts yourself or is your mind actually turning your observations and emotions into language for you to label the current experience you are having?

These are some out-of-the-box questions, but they will give you a different perspective of who you really are. I , along with many others in my field, believe that the voice inside your head is NOT actually YOU per se, rather, it is you ego; the public relations guy whose purpose is connecting you to the outside world. You, on the other hand, are the self-aware conscious being, aka the soul, that resides in your body.

The soul is an observer of all things, the camera-man of experience. You don't have to be religious to believe in the soul, simply because the soul is life energy that is consciously aware of itself. Modern science is beginning to prove this theory.

Some quantum physicists even conclude that the entire universe is giant a sound wave, a thought, and that life is simply the observation of it all. The universe is simply expressing all of its infinite possibilities of existence though all forms of creation, and you just happen to be one of them. Take a second to let that sink in.

So if these theories are true, what does that mean for us? Whether they hold any ground or not, it leaves us with this: if we aren't our thoughts, and we are just observers of life, then we can CHOOSE to observe life how we want to. We can CHOOSE how to perceive something.

We can CHOOSE to listen to the ego's voice in our heads or not. We can CHOOSE how to live our lives. We have the power of observation, which is simply the ability to choose where to focus our awareness.

Focus is power. Where you focus your awareness is what you feed your energy into. If you focus on all the bad things in life, then your life will be bad. If you focus on the good things in life, then your life will be good. It really is that simple.

As much as we would love to shut off our egos at times, especially when we are overwhelmed with thoughts, the truth is, we can't. They are put there for a reason; to record our experience, to guide us though life, to teach us, and to protect us while we exist in our current form. It has a job to do, and it does it well.

The ego never lies to us. In fact, no matter how hard you try, you can never lie to yourself because it always interprets every emotion and thought into language. There is no filter when it comes to the ego. Sometimes horrible thoughts go through our head, and there is nothing we can do about it but cringe and let them pass.

There is no escaping anything you think of. That's why you shouldn't identify yourself with your thoughts because they are just perceptions that are labeled and sent to you to be observed.

Even though shutting off the ego isn't possible, there is a way around it. Just because the ego won't shut up doesn't mean you have to pay any attention to it. You have the power to CHOOSE where you focus, which mean you can choose NOT to pay attention to it.

This is what people do when they mediate. They command themselves to clear their thoughts and focus on not thinking; usually selecting something to focus on their breathing or a feeling in their body. This allows them to be ego-less and dwell into a higher level of consciousness; a place where people become one with themselves and the life force that created this universe.

Even at this level the ego is present, but this time it is actually there to help you observe the experience rather than distract you with other fears or concerns.

We can't shut it off, but we can tell it what to do. The ego is at OUR command. We can tell it how to perceive something. We can tell it where to focus. We can tell it to shut up about a certain topic and drop negative thoughts. Go ahead, try it on yourself the next time it is annoying you with something. Literally tell it " OK, enough about that..." and simply turn your attention towards something else. You'll see how effective this technique is.

With this simple yet powerful understanding, you will be able to control your emotions and your thoughts. Next time something is bothering you, focus on the OPPOSITE perception of the situation. The next time your mind is telling you that your life sucks or you aren't good enough, focus on the OPPOSITE of that.

You have to power to do this because YOU are the director of the movie we call life. Each one of us are the directors, the actors, and the cameramen of our own movie. We can edit any part we don't like, we can scrap a part we don't need, and we can turn our little project in anything we want. This is the power we have been blessed with. This is free will.

You must remember that you are not your thoughts, otherwise you will be consumed by them. The ego is your navigator but you are the captain of your vessel. Use the ego; don't let it use you. If you focus too much on your ego, you give it way too much power and it will enslave you with worldly matters.

You will lose your true power as an infinite being and will get caught in a cycle of materialism, emotional ups-and-downs, and a life that seems to have no purpose. In order to avoid this painful death sentence, all you have to do is stay focused and in control and your time on this earth will be as exciting and fulfilling as humanly possible. .
