Looking For A Pet? Here's The Best Animal Friend For Every Zodiac Sign

I think I speak for everyone who is not a complete monster when I say that we all love animals. It's long been said that a dog is man's best friend, but you can have more than one best friend, right? Of course you can! You're an infinite, powerful being made of 100 percent love!

DISCLAIMER: This is not a decree that there's only one good house pet out there for each sign in the zodiac. This is -- like all astrology articles -- a fun and informative personality guide to post on Facebook. Do not read this article and trade in Fido for a horse; it would be highly irresponsible, and your family and friends will never stop making fun of you.

Here's the best animal friend for every sign in the zodiac.

Aries (March 21–April 19): Get a dog.

People under this sign have a ton of energy and are very physically active. Having a dog suits the Aries lifestyle. An Aries will bring his or her dog everywhere (perhaps even to places where the pup is not welcome), and if anyone objects, you'd better believe an Aries will take it personally. A dog will also force its owner to take walks -- something that could give the active Aries some peace.

Taurus (April 20–May 20): Get a pig.

People born under Taurus would do well with an animal that is both intelligent and independent. A pig is somewhere between a cat and a dog in terms of personality. The Taurus would appreciate a pig's independence, because the Taurus doesn't like to be interrupted. But the Taurus does love to show off, and a pig provides that much-needed attention.

Gemini (May 21–June 20): Get a parrot.

People born under Gemini really like to talk. A parrot is perfect because it's intelligent and chatty, just like a Gemini. As an added benefit, a parrot repeats anything Gemini teaches it to say, preventing power struggles.

Cancer (June 21–July 22): Get a cat.

Cancer is a notorious homebody who loves to eat, so a cat is ultimately the Cancer's spirit animal (even if the biggest cat on earth is the symbol for Leo). People born under Cancer are wonderful caretakers and would do well with any pet, but they have the emotional intelligence necessary for owning a cat. They won't set their expectations too high, and they'll be grateful whenever the cat chooses to bestow affection on them.

Leo (July 23–August 22): Get a horse.

People born under Leo need a pet that will be a reflection of them and a symbol of their nobility. A purebred horse is regal, graceful and dignified, which happens to be exactly how a Leo likes to be seen. This isn't to mention a horse's mane requires a lot of grooming, which the vain Leo has a lot of experience with. So yes, a horse. Get a horse. Seems reasonable to me. (Then again, I'm a Pisces. We aren't known for being practical.)

Virgo (August 23–September 22): Get a fish.

Virgo hates a mess, and people born under this sign are plagued by more health conditions than most other signs in the Zodiac. To avoid fur allergies -- and to eliminate the mess that other pets can make -- the Virgo would do well with a fish. A Virgo will make sure the tank is always clean, and fish are said to be calming -- an added benefit for the biggest worriers of the zodiac.

Libra (September 23–October 22): Get a dove.

Just like Libra, the dove is a symbol of peace and harmony. While Libra is very dependable and would be a wonderful owner for any animal, Libra people's hearts can go cold when it comes to animals that aren't aesthetically pleasing. They aren't snobs, they're just romantics who believe that everything should be beautiful.

My best friend is a Libra. She loves dogs, but when she sees one that's ugly, she reacts like she's just stepped barefoot in a pile of vomit. Don't pretend there aren't ugly dogs out there -- there are.

A dove is a thing of beauty, and things of beauty are what Libra loves most. Also, having a dove for a pet is characteristic of Libra, because it's too romantic an idea to even be reasonable.

Scorpio (October 23–November 21): Get a snake.

A snake is a mythical creature, and it reminds us of the story of Adam and Eve. Snakes also shed their skin, so they are symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality and healing. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, so a pet snake would only be appropriate. On an unrelated-but-fun note, if you look really close at a snake's face, it kind of looks like a pitbull smiling. Try it; it's adorable.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21): Get a turtle.

Sagittarius is on the road a lot -- people born under this sign are natural travelers with a tendency toward wanderlust, so they need an animal that will stay at home without needing much from them. Can you really leave a turtle alone while you travel? I don't know, because I don't like boring pets. If you can leave your turtle at home, it's a practical pick for Sagittarius. If not, a stuffed animal should do.

Capricorn (December 22–January 19): Get a purebred anything.

Like everything else in a Capricorn's life, a pet is a status symbol. Even if a Capricorn adopts a pet from a shelter, it won't be an ugly mutt. The Capricorn has to have something that at least passes as purebred.

When their friends ask where the Capricorn got their pet, Capricorn will most likely tell them it was a breeder who specializes in blah blah blah … just to cover up tracks. They wouldn't want anyone to know they got that Great Dane at a discount.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18): Feed the strays.

Aquarius is the least likely of the signs to get a pet, because people born under Aquarius are so in love with their freedom. However, their symbol is the water-bearer, and the Aquarius is giving and generous when needed. An Aquarius might be the mysterious neighbor who leaves three cans of cat food under the porch or a dog treat by your door -- even when he or she is "too busy" to say hello in the stairwell.

Someone's got to run the shelter.

Pisces (February 19–March 20): Get a bunny.

If there is any animal as emotionally and physically sensitive as a Pisces, it's a rabbit. Both Pisces and rabbits tend to have non-intrusive, quiet personalities. Also, rabbits love to cuddle, and no one in the zodiac needs a hug more than Pisces.
