Everything You Need To Know About Ophiuchus, The Alleged 13th Zodiac Sign

by Rosey Baker

I don't know if you've heard, but every few years the internet goes into a borderline insane frenzy over the news that there's a 13th zodiac sign and the we've all been living in a cage of lies. That 13th star sign is called Ophiuchus, and according to Western astrology, it's a big steaming pile of bullsh*t. But that doesn't mean you can't choose to believe in it. This is America, where we're all allowed to buy into whatever crap we want.

Some people have fully lost their sense of identity based on the existence of this constellation, and therefore the possibility there could be a 13th sign. I call those people "basic," because if astrology is your best excuse for a personality, you need to do some work on yourself. But here's the thing: According to Western astrology, Ophiuchus is not a thing. Western astrologers aren't even buying it.

That said, if you're gonna make a decision for yourself, you should have all the info, so here's everything you need to know about Ophiuchus, the 13th zodiac sign (that really isn't a zodiac sign.)

Eastern Astrologers Who Count Ocyphius As A Sign:

Those who practice Eastern astrology base the zodiac off of constellations, not zodiac signs.

"Ophiuchus has nothing to do with astrology," Western astrologist Rick Levine told DailyHoroscope. "It's not an astrology issue. It has to do with the stars — it's not a sign, it's a constellation. There are four seasons each with a beginning, middle and end," he added. "That makes 12 zodiac signs, and there's no such thing as a 13th astrological sign."

But those who follow Eastern astrology believe that the ancient Babylonians left out the 13th sign in the zodiac because it wouldn't fit nicely into their 12-month calendar, and because it's so hard to pronounce, which doesn't make sense... because they were ancient Babylonians, how would we even know that?

Characteristics:

According to Eastern Astrology, Ophiuchus falls between the signs of Scorpio and Sagittarius, marked by the dates Nov. 17 through Dec. 29.

These people are wisdom seekers, gifted at interpreting dreams, visionaries, and they're said to naturally attract good luck. They need to look out against people who are jealous of them and their good fortune, as they're easily the target of people's envy. Like the two signs that Ophiuchus falls between, this sign is a combination of the traits of Scorpios dark and penetrating personality and Sagittarius' curious, freedom-loving optimism.

They're described as being intellectual, clever people who are honest (sometimes to a fault) and they dislike authority, rules, and restrictions of any kind. They're also very adept and passionate lovers naturally. They seek out the unknown, and are seekers of the truth, disliking trivial information.

On the negative side, Ophiuchus is not great at monogamous relationships, as they want a lot of freedom for themselves, but can be the jealous type when it comes to their lovers. They can be restless and irresponsible, especially with routine. They have a sarcastic and dry sense of humor that can be hurtful to people.
