Lifestyle — Why Being A Parent Turns You Into A Big Kid
by Kelley Lord

We've all heard it before: Once you have kids, you can kiss your life goodbye. And on the surface it makes sense. From the moment you hold your baby in your arms you're suddenly responsible for someone else's life. The stakes are obviously high.

But here's a little secret: Your life is not over — in fact, the fun has just begun! (And I don't mean just because you now have a legitimate excuse to watch cartoons every day.)

When you're busy juggling work and life, it's easy to forget about the simple things that used to make you happy. But kids are a constant reminder of what makes life so great! And their enthusiasm and curiosity bring you back in time and help you to appreciate those 'little' things that really matter.

Ask yourself this: When's the last time you played on the playground or used your imagination? Having kids gives you the opportunity to relive your childhood and recapture the rush of excitement you felt when you experienced something new, from your first day of school to your first kiss.

Plus, a funny thing happens when you're constantly asked questions about life and growing up: You realize what you know and don't know, and you start using your imagination more and more. I mean, no kid will accept “I don't know” as an answer, so you've got to come up with a good story to explain the mysteries of the world, amiright?

So, the next time someone tells you that having kids is all work and no play, remember that there's another equally famous expression that rings true: Having kids keeps you young.

GEN WHY is back for Season 7 with celebrity chef Ayesha Curry to remind you that you're never too old to kick back with a juice box.
