I never quite understood what the big deal is with tampons.

Growing up, girls were hesitant to talk about using tampons; guys were big babies, either squealing in horror at the mention of 'menstruation,' or finding childish ways t0 play with the feminine care product, like wetting the end and chucking it at cars.

Now that I'm an adult(ish), I know the answers.

Girls were embarrassed because of the societal taboo that tells us something is inherently wrong, or gross, about being a woman with womanly bodily functions. And on the boy's end — well, boys are just dumb.

Fortunately, it's gotten a lot better over the years, but reproductive education is still far from perfect. Miseducation and misrepresentation are everywhere — even in the places you'd least expect it.

I had the distinct pleasure of searching through images on a stock photo website to find a picture of a tampon for an article, and I realized, stock photos are one of those realms in which the realities of modern day do not exist. Stock photos of feminine care products are either totally boring, or unbelievably cheesy.

So, in the interest of Women's History Month, here are 10 of the worst tampon stock photos currently on the Internet.
