There was a time when it seemed Vin Diesel was immortal, and the “Fast & Furious” films would continue forever until the world ran out of ribbed tank tops and broken glass.

In a bittersweet Facebook post, Diesel committed to one last trilogy of films for the franchise.

On Friday, action cinema's gravel-mouthed angel wrote,

The fans of the 'Fast & Furious' SAGA are the best fans in the world... Since I became the Producer in 2008, you have been with me every step of the way... My producing partner Neal [Moritz] would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise… NO ONE has been offered to helm 'Fast 8' yet... Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision...they have been like family... I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.

Diesel concluded his post with a promise to announce the directors (yup, plural) in his next Facebook update, and posted a photo of himself chuckling softly.

The eighth installment in the series is due in April 2017, pending further notice from the king of high-speed explosions.
