'This Is Us' Tied 'Handmaid's Tale' For Most TCA Noms Because Everyone Loves To Cry

It's that time of year: the first rounds of nominations for the 2016-2017 television season.

Though we're still waiting on the Emmys nominations to arrive, we've got our first glimpse of how things might shake out -- or at least how the television critics think they should shake out anyway.

Their official list of nominees for the Television Critics Association arrived this afternoon, and it's drama leading the way with This Is Us and The Handmaid's Tale leading the pack, tied for the most nominations this year.

Let's run down the major categories:

This Is Us was just given a premiere date for Season 2 today, as NBC released its fall premiere slate. According to TVLine, it will return to airwaves on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at 9 p.m. ET, directly following The Voice.

The TCAs will be held smack in the middle of the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, which runs from Tuesday, July 25 - Wednesday, August 9, 2017. The awards will be on Saturday, August 5, 2017, hosted by American Gods star Kristin Chenoweth.
