Every year, BET hosts an awards show in collaboration with Black Girls Rock! to celebrate the “accomplishments of exceptional women of color” throughout various fields and industries.

This year, Caribbean-born singer Rihanna took home the Rock Star Award and delivered a fantastic acceptance speech, expressing gratitude both for her win and for the event itself.

In a world that “doesn't celebrate [black women] enough,” Rihanna explained, having an event like Black Girls Rock! shows young black girls their accomplishments do matter.

More importantly, the awards show features dozens of wildly successful women of color whom black girls can look up to as they grow.
