Here Are The Origins Of A Bunch Of Names Used In 'Harry Potter'

As any true “Harry Potter” fan knows, every seemingly inconsequential detail in the stories — from the Thestrals, which inevitably bring Harry and his friends to the Ministry of Magic, to Harry's ability to talk to snakes — was well thought-out by JK Rowling as part of the storyline.

So it should come as no surprise that the characters' names were carefully thought out, as well.

The folks over at Mental Floss took the time to dissect the names of some of the places, people and magical things in “Harry Potter,” and as it turns out, many of them have a real meaning, with roots in Latin, French or Spanish.

It's kind of mind-blowing to think just how much care J.K Rowling put into the books — and further proof that “Harry Potter” is the best series ever.
